I think posting pump prices after hours - IMO is a bad way to inform others of the pump prices for that prior open business day. If you want to know the prices for yourself that is fine. But one should wait til they open to post the most current prices so others can find the right prices and or post before they close for the business day so others can see what the daily pump prices were. What you post during closed hours prices can change when they open pump for that next business day. Some are open 24/7 that one can do that for but for local pump that have business open/close hours they shouldn't post for those unless they the poster knows for fact it will be the same at opening next business day. So what do you think of this?

It's personal, there is nothing stating one way or the other.

If I see a price, I'm going to post it without checking whether the station is open or not.

Personally I don't think much of the suggestion. First, prices remain visible (and it varies by Gas Buddy area) for about 36 hours, which means prices are visible when stations may be closed, even if they're not updated during "closed hours".

That said, yes, it could be a problem if a member wanted to get gas when the station was closed but the alternative would be to stop a station's prices from being viewed during closed hours.

Second, you're discouraging members from keeping prices updated; not everyone who passes a station (and posts prices), depending on where the "overhead price sign is", will know if a station is do so when the station is open or closed, and may (depending on commute) update a price post a very short time before the station is reopened.

If what you want is that no members can see a station's prices when the station is closed, you're creating a lot of computer code work for Gas Buddy, and then expecting the membership to consistently keep up with each gas station's hours as the hours of operation can change by season or even by day of week or holiday.

So, to go back to what you asked in the original post, "So what do you think of this?", as I said earlier, I don't think much of the idea. At least not as presented.

OP, if this is a concern to you, filter your prices to not show from the previous day. After all, someone could post a price at 9PM while the station is open and it can still increase over night. Just post the price on the sign and people can see how old the price is and decide for themselves if that price is too old.

Doesn't matter. Shouldn't even change more than a couple cents anyway.

That's why posted prices have a time stamp. If I can see the price, I post.
