OFF TOPIC, I was at the Denver CO airport last week
I rented a car and they told me if I brought it back and it need gas it would be $ 9.85 a gallon!!!!!!!! Needless to say I fueled it up on the way back to the rental lot for $3.09!!!!!!!! I imagine people pay triple the price of gas everyday at airports, expense accounts, "Other peoples money"
Unbelievable!!!!

By charging so much it is a major inducement for customers to fill-up the cars before returning them. This probably saves labor costs for the rental companies.

Some people charge it all back to the company - so they don't care

Well, why not ask them why they charge so much? They may have a valid reason.

Fools be warned...the Denver airport rental return policy is about the same everywhere so unless you like getting screwed, refill the tank away from the airport rental returns.

That is ridiculous. And where is the nearest gas station to the rental agency? 10 miles?

Exorbitant prices are common if you don't return the rented vehicle with a full tank. Even if you return it with a full tank, be sure to check your credit card statement for a gas charge.

Same thing goes for banks, airlines, hotels, cellphone plans, cable, credit cards, etc.

It's the era of add-on and gotchas. Glad they didn't get your cash!!

And no doubt this was Enterprise, the worst car rental company on the face of the earth.

That's even worse than the gas station just outside of the Orlando airport which is commonly over $5 per gallon.

If you knew it was off topic, why not post it in a more appropriate discussion category.

But, as maxstar noted, what's the problem? You rented a car and before you took it from the rental company, the rental car company told you what the cost would be IF YOU FILLED UP FROM THE RENTAL COMPANY. You had no obligation to fill up with the rental company and it wasn't as if you brought the car back to the rental lot and didn't know the cost per gallon.

What's the problem? That airport or other tourist area car rental agencies charge higher prices for gas than you'd pay if you bought the gas somewhere else?

Off Topic: Did you post the gas prices for the Denver area? After all, this website is only as good as the input from Gas Buddy members.

At Detroit Metro airport the gas station nearby is always $0.40 or $0.50 higher that those a mile or so from the ap. They know you need gas for your rental.

Update some gas prices so that others will have information they can really use.

Sounds like the rental company disclosed that cost up front so I am not sure what the issue is. No doubt that amount is high because in causes an increase in the time it takes to turn the car around for the next customer.
