Do you go out of your way to use rewards card at the pump, such as to grocery stores like stop & shop?

Absolutely. Up here, Pioneer and PetroCan have their own rewards programs.

When in the US, I shop at Price Choppers, where some products give discounted gas from Sunoco on their rewards program. Do it all the time.

Do not go "out of my way" to use the Rewards Cards and their associated points. We do plan our trips to redeem the points.

We use the Kroger and Shell's Fuel Rewards Network cards at Shell. In Central VA, we have a lot of Shell stations that are Independently Owned and very competitive in pricing, with many even beating or matching the "generic" gas discounters. Those Shells that are company owned have promo programs, such as the "20¢ OFF PREMIUM Tuesdays" and "5¢ OFF ALL Gas Thursdays", which can make them CHEAPER than the "generic" gas discounters.

We use GasBuddy and our own network of friends to keep tabs on the best prices.

We redeem our Kroger and Fuel Rewards Network points at Shell stations when they have their gas at the lowest price. We plan ahead and buy the full amount of discounted gas the cards allow, since they only allow you a one time chance to redeem your points. I bring cans or use the tank in the truck to buy it all. Then we can pump it into our other vehicles as needed or pour it into our gas-powered equipment.

By using GasBuddy and from our own adventures, we have found other Shells throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern U.S. that are very competitive in pricing. Texas is another area where Shells are ultra competitive. While we will not usually be using the discount points, we do buy fuel there.

Kroger Plus Card at Shell. Just about the cheapest gas you can get in the Galveston Bay area.
