Have you noticed Shell stations closing and being torn down? In my area there are fewer Shell stations that have been replaced by Speedway or a totally different business.

Haven't noticed any shut down around here. Had a new one open about a year ago. Sometimes these large oil companies close stations where they don't have a large presence.

There's a number of Shell stations in the area, but we did have a Texaco rebrand to Shell and then it was razed. The property is still an empty lot. We also had another Shell close, and the site is now an Olive Garden.

It's unfortunate that Shells are being replaced by Speedways. Fortunately, I haven't seen that in Atlanta yet.

Speedway gas is generic gas with the minimum EPA additive package. Shell is a Top Tier fuel. Even if I lived beside a Speedway, I'd find a Top Tier gas station.

If anything, I think we have more Shell stations here. They appeared to have purchased competitor stations.

We had some Shell stations owned by Road Ranger sold to Speedway a few years ago. They were rebranded to Speedway.

In the Mid-Atlantic coastal states and Southern states, we have not noticed hardly any Shell stations going out of business. It is generally the other way around -- what once was some other brand is now a Shell station.

The few that we know have gone out of business either went out of business over 10 years ago OR were not in good location. We had heard rumors that a few that went out of business were poorly managed. With the station being a draw for customers and most of the money now being made in the attached store, the few that went out of business in the last 4 years either did not have a store or were in a bad location and did not draw enough traffic to be very profitable. One that became a Shell then went out of biz was in a bad location. That owner bought another Shell station in a better location.

Still a slow-motion drop off in Shell station in NW Indiana. And the few stations still around are still charging higher prices...and still have their faithful customers.

All that probably means is one of two things. Either Shell in your area is consolidating its operations for efficiency or business reasons (and if the stations are being closed, that means the lease is running out). If the stations are staying open under a new brand, the owners/operators are changing their franchise. You normally don't see gas stations completely closing but leases do run our and aren't renewed (generally because of higher rent or other operating expenses), and it's not It's not unusual and it's not unusual for gas stations to change brands when their franchise agreement runs out for any number of reasons (including a different brand has lower franchise fees or provides more services than the other franchise (brand) operator).

Nothing unusual, just in your case you're seeing it for Shell.

Remember when Texaco sold out to the Arab Oil Company (ARAMCO)back around 2001, Chevron and Shell split up the stations between the east and west coast. Some closed down and some Texaco's were reopened as either Shell or Chevron. Couple years later new Texaco stations were opened but have a different owner now, is not the Texas Oil Co anymore, just in name!

I seem to remember a few years ago there being almost no Shell stations in the Atlanta area. There are only about 3 Shell stations in McDonough and they tend to be more expensive compared to the other stations around.. sometimes by 10 cents or more. There is a Shell station in Covington that I have been to that has really cheap gas. A couple of times it has been the cheapest on the main atlantagasprices.com page.

NE San Antonio area seems to have a large number of Shell stations. I think they took over a couple of stations plus the stations they already possessed.

There's been a slow but steady closure of Shell station in our area over the years. What Shells do exist, however, seem to do a steady business even with their prices being the highest in the area on average.

We have five (5) 'Shell' stations in our area. Two (2) of those were 'Texaco' and a 'Phillips 66' stations. If anything we have
grown in 'Shell' stations!

We have 2 in our area of Charlotte County but on Hwy. 41 they have several. So we have plenty of Shell stations here.

No, I haven't noticed that at all. They are holding their own with high priced gas. And, as a matter of fact, we have a new one. Just opened up where there was a 76 station.
