I'm sure this has been covered many times, but I'm curious so I'll ask anyway:

Today, I was on the way home and driving by one of the stations I post regularly. I see in the app, that someone posted a diesel price. The station doesn't sell, and never has sold, diesel.

So three questions - 1: How do you report a fake price in this situation? 2: do you turn the fake poster in? 3: What else do you do?

Fake prices can result in expulsion, according to the rules. If you want points, just click on the news on the left.

"The stations are clearly marked on the GasBuddy App. as NOT CARRYING DIESEL. But these users don't care."

Another user recently remarked that he thought GB only cared about a price, any price, being posted, whether it was accurate or not. I initially dismissed his suggestion, but I'm beginning to think he may be on to something. This site operates on ad revenue. More people posting garbage prices, more people posting threads in clear violation of this site's own posting policies, the more ad impressions (and money) they get. I have since given up hope of the moderators ever fixing any of this site's major user abuse issues.

sad to say but some people do fudge the numbers, it's not right but it's still being done.

I would update the station and comment that the station doesn't sell diesel and report the people that do post the prices

As of today 09/14/2013 - there are 15+ FAKE DIESEL Posting in the Cape Cod, MA area in Yarmouth, MA, Barnstable, MA & surrounding area. It all stems from 2 users & then many others who unfortunately COPY their fake price inputs just to earn points... It's very irritating, I have reported it many times but it is happening too frequently for me to send an email to the mods every time (I would become a nuisance)... The stations are clearly marked on the GasBuddy App. as NOT CARRYING DIESEL. But these users don't care. Most of the time they just make up a fake prices & put it in the Diesel box or if a station has 4 Grades of Gasoline such as SUNOCO in Barnstable (Centerville), MA they will post 87, 89, 91 & then put 93 in the Diesel box instead of Comments, when the Station does not carry Diesel & never has. This is not just a local problem for me, it happens all over the GB Network & I think the best solution would be not allowing Diesel to be submitted if the station is not marked as having Diesel in the MSL. Also the same should apply for Stations that don't sell Mid-Grade & Stations that sell Regular only. It's very irritating. I also can't "0 out" the fake prices anymore, I'm a long time GB user with a fairly high ranking & over the 90 consec. day level. I used to be able to put 0 in for a fake price & remove it, but it no longer works...

Sometimes a price is reported at one time and then the price changes several times in one day(usually when prices go up) Sometimes we have to give posters the benefit of the doubt.

Notify Gas Buddy, who in turn will notify the poster of this incident.

i don't know about anyone else but if i post on my android not a problem. when i post with my blackberry the app is bugged only every now and then. i will try to post at the 1 gas station next to another and when i hit save it will save it to other gas station. i have to go back in and fix it. it makes it look like a fake post. so then i have to drive to the next gas station to correct it that station gas prices.

Report the poster to the President of Gas Buddy. Then tell everybody in your area who the poster is and what he or she is doing. Finally, write to his whiteboard that you are keeping an eye out for his shenanigans.

I've noticed that at times as well. I have tried to message them in the past but they usually ignored me and kept on doing what they were doing.

I usually message the person. It seems to help. They have not posted a wrong grade again in my area.

Last night I was driving between cities and noted an out of the way station, that had a price posted the day before. Thought I would slide over to update it and found that there was NO gas sold there.... I have not hit 10,000 so I can not use master list as yet. the station is Fairgrounds General Store in Fairgrounds, south west of Langton, Ontario. I could not find it in the web site, but shows up on the mobile app. Any ideas????

I only have a few stations in our area that I report that don't have diesel. It annoys me when some one does it because I don't think that they are being very careful, but mistakes do happen. If I noticed it on a reoccurring basis, I would probably warn them on their whiteboard, and if it continued, report them.

I've never tried posting 0 over it as AFOS suggested - thanks for that tip.

Seems like a decent enhancement request for the app - to make "delete price" more intuitive.

Just move on. I wouldn't worry about them. You never know if they mistakenly posted a diesel price there when they meant to post it on a different station.

If it continues to happen, just move the poster to your ignore list

Post over it with a 0 price which should delete the price.
If this is a repeat violator contact the moderators. They will probably give you a form letter response, but if the problem persists, keep contacting them and something could be done.
