Why not just fill the tank completely and save the hassle and waste of gas and time to fill it 4-5 times more often?

Put in enough to time my travel to get to empty and then fill up just before a price spike.

why does it matter what someone else does ?

I guess i could ask why would you fill it up ? and tie all that money up in gas , waste more gas lugging all that gas around , then if the price drops , you lost money !!!!!

If that's all the cash you got, that's all you can put in. Gee....I wish I had enough money to fill-up my tank, like YOU probably have, "mybigtruck"!!

i would think it is usually what they can afford, either that or the tank leaks if they put more gas in...

GuitarmanMS, if they had any benjamins, they could put in more than a Lincoln or a Hamilton!

It is either because they lack the necessary funds or maybe they just like to stop a lot (lol).

Because they are low in funds.....

Most people do this practice until it is pay day.....

Just filled up for $10 on Saturday. Yes, I said filled up. We had a full tank when we left home to run errands. There was a station (with rewards) that was vastly cheaper than near our home. Since we were driving the Civic, we had only burned about 3 gallons so $10 barely fit.

Not all gas stations accept credit or debit cards, especially the small independent stations. These same stations often have the cheapest gas in the area. Since people have been conditioned to depend on plastic and not carry much cash on them, a $5 or $10 but most likely a $20 may be all they have on them (especially if payday is still a few days away).

I just put in $10 a moment ago. The station near work is $3.489 where I filled up. It is $3.239 near home, but didn't have time to get gas on my way into work. I will fill up there tonight. I think 25 cents per gallon is worthwhile.

Because prices are falling, thus the gas they buy tomorrow will be cheaper than that of today.

::::::Stop wasting gas on mowing your lawn! Buy a goat! :::::::

ARe you nuts? In just about every town the illegals would steal the goat and eat it. My friend had a pet duck, (Stanley) . Stanley was stolen out of his locked cage one night. Lock was cut. Poor Stanley wound up in some illegal border jumper's roasting pan....

A goat? Thats a delicacy to an illegal. Wouldn't last a week before winding up in the stew pot.

My 7 year 60,000 mile average fill in Prius has been 6.4 gallons for what is claimed to be an 11.9 gallon tank. So on average i stop for gas every 330 miles. Thats longer than most go between fills.

Stop wasting gas on mowing your lawn! Buy a goat! There was a news story recently about Detroit considering this option. I'd post it, but with all the flack someone is getting over posting the Pittsburgh Pirates "news" I'll let someone else do that.

Looks like I need to cut the grass one last time this year. But no gas in the can. Looks like I'll have to buy maybe 1 cup of gas. Maybe 50cents worth.

Will some GB poster see the 50cents on the pump? Will he then post "Why do people buy 50cents of gas?"

Considering that my wife's route to work features significantly higher gas prices than mine (typically), in my case it's not the INABILITY to manage money, but quite the opposite. On days when she's not working, I'll take her car and fill it. If she needs gas in the interim, she'll put in just enough to get it to me to drive and fill up. Do that enough over the course of the year on a 22 gallon tank and yeah, it makes a big difference.
