Good day,

On Saturday March 9th, in the evening, I stopped at the Petro Canada gas station located in New Liskeard, ON. I asked the employee to fill up de car with Super clean (Premium unleaded) as required by the manufacturer. I was on my way and after a few kilometres, I notice surging of the vehicle. The next morning, the engine tried to start then stalls. I brought my Subaru Forester to the mechanics. The gas was found as the cause of the issues encountered by my car, and the report from the mechanics also states "...noticed that fuel; did not smell proper when injector test done, suspected bad gas or something mixed with it."

At this point I have made a complaint to Petro Canada and I’m thinking to bring them in small court because it cost me 700$ of reparation at the dealer.

Did some thing like this append to you?
Have heard any similar small court case?

Small claims court is your best bet.

I wonder if they ever got the documentation necessary to formally charge the suspected station?

Got to get documentation. There is no doubt that some gas sits around too long and goes bad.

And in the more than a week since the original post was made, the member still has only 120 points.

I tried to go to that gas station in Ontario but the Canadian authorities at the border would not let me into the coutnry. They said no member of GasBuddy was welcome up there.

After reading your complaint and all the responses, I can truly say, I don't care. It's a Canadian problem. Take it up with the Queen.

It hasn't happened to me but it did happen to my best friend and it definitely was bad gas. They had to do a lot of work to get her car back to its' original state which was paid by the station who sold it to her.

Sounds like you need a locking gas cap. Are you sure someone didn't instill something into your tank while it was parked at home or some place else?

Subaru? That's your first problem, eh? If you got "bad gas" then everyone that gassed up at that station got "bad gas". I would predict that you may have an enemy, or maybe someone who is jealous of that Subaru you are showboating around Canada!

I'm not sure why you joined Gas Buddy to anonymously ask about "bad gas" rather than, say, contacting your local Better Business Bureau or equivalent, or asking your local radio/television/newspaper "consumer reporter", but if it was "bad gas" that happened to you, then it obviously must have happened to others who would have also reported it. And yes, I know that "maybe you were the first person this happened to" and your first thought was to join Gas Buddy and ask your question. After all, it's not as if there was "one" bad thing in the gas and it went into your fuel tank.

In the very few instances of "bad gas" (i.e., usually from a ruptured or damaged tank, or the transposing of diesel into the gas storage tanks, the refinery or parent company are quick to resolve the problem.

I'm not sure why your mechanics "noticed that the fuel did not smell proper" and suspected "bad gas", whatever that means, and didn't say what it could be other than "something mixed with it."

Unless it was a storage tank or refinery issue (which means it would affect others, not just you), meaning that you would have likely heard other local stories about it, if something was "mixed with it", then it's entirely possible that someone (not the gas station itself) "dropped" something into your fuel tank. As for "stalling" while that sounds like diesel mixed into your fuel tank (either the refinery putting diesel into gas tankers, or the fuel distributor putting diesel into the underground gas storage tanks, or you adding diesel to your car's gas tank), you didn't say that happened, and you didn't say your mechanics said that, something that they could have easily been determined.

Sorry, but based on what you've said here, with the limited information you provided to a bunch of people unfamiliar with what actually happened, your best recourse is what you've already done, contacting Petro Canada. Unless this has happened to others (and if that happened either the station or Petro Canada would make good for all persons affected), you would be going to Small Claims Court trying to win something for something that was so isolated (to you and you alone) that the case against Petro Canada would likely be dismissed (and you subject to paying the court costs for you and Petro Canada). In my opinion, based on what little you've told people in your post.

But, and I'm just curious, why did you wait two weeks after the incident to join Gas Buddy and ask your question as your (thus far) one and only Gas Buddy activity?
