Are the days of gas below $3/gallon behind us or do we think gas prices will ever drop below $3/gallon at some point in the future?

So far it is 50-60 cents below $3. But for how long? Wouldn't be surprised if it is back over $3 after the new year.

Its unlikely gas will ever be under $3 per gallon. Speculators will never allow the price to drop that low. Speculators control the price.

Plus opec controls the oil market, they will simply cut oil exports to keep the price high.

Not to mention Big Oil will simply stop pumping to keep the price up.

In some areas of the country it will go below $3.00 a gallon, but it won't stay there for long. Back in January 2013, I paid $2.899 in Albuquerque, NM.

We might see it go back down but I don't think it will get below $3.00. Our lowest station is $3.20.

Sure, all we need is another recession/depression and commodities of all types will plummet. The irony here is that metals and grains and other soft commodities have been declining and even oil has been flat to slightly down over the last year. But retail gasoline is higher. This means wider margins for the refiners. For once it's not oil prices driving pump prices. The last 6 to 12 months have all been refiners sticking it to consumers.

Yes, let's remember the good ole days under Mr. Bush. Boy did he know how to run an economy.

As for $3+ gas, yes, it would be wonderful if we could fill up for $1.50/gal but it's not going to happen and that $3+ gallon does happen to help our economy because we're producing more and more domestic energy which produces jobs and makes us less dependent on foreign oil not to mention helping with the trade deficit.

But it's not really the cost of a gallon of fuel that's most important. It's the cost per mile. That's why the CAFE goals are so important. When we can make a gallon of fuel go further, then the cost of driving can be moderated. When it's time to replace our current rides, we can look forward to an array of automotive choices that are more fuel efficient, safer, and cleaner than what we've ever had.

Way behind us, hawkman. Way behind. If the current administration had their way, we would be paying above 5 bucks. And, they would jump for joy if it went all the way to 6 bucks.

It's been going down for a while now, slowly, but still down.. Some parts of the US are lucky enough to already be under $3 & hanging around $2.89 - $2.99 for Regular 87!

Gas has been plunging all over this month. Will it continue? We are on the way to $3/gal now.
