Gasoline vapors are suppose to be pretty bad to breath in. I'm just wondering what normal people think about it. On the rare occasion that I buy gas, I set the pump on and walk a few feet away and stay upwind if possible.

There are no fumes when filling. As others have said, the vapor recovery system captures the fumes. This is federal law. All pumps capture the fumes.

Also what you are doing is outlawed in most states. You are prohibited from setting the pump and walking away.

By all means, Benzine in gasoline causes cancer by inhaling it.

Most stations have vapor recovery on the hose to car interface.
Where are you breating fumes?
The only place you would typically get fumes, is when filling gas cans or filling your lawnmower.
