I know of one gas station ( Shell) on Bridge Street, East Windsor CT. that charges 2 different prices for each grade of gasoline... one is for credit card purchasee and the other is for cash purchase. Cash purchasee is about 10 cents less than the credit card.
I've bought gas there many times (90% of the time with cash) but never thought to check which gas price I was being charged for. There are 3 recent occasions where I've made a cash purchasees but was charged at higher price. consumers... be aware while you filling the gas tanks.

I've used pumps that were noticeably miscalibrated so that although there was a posted savings at the station, the reality was that I was paying for more gasoline than I was actually getting.

Ripped off? Hell I'm feeling ripped off each time I fill up. They are literally taking money from your pockets and stealing it without the use of a weapon.

No, I watch the price as I fill up. Stop at ten gallons to check the price, then proceed.

Every time you go to Valero.

Also, NEVER use a pump at a station that's permanently closed (as in boarded up).

They seem pretty good about the posted price but I do wonder how accurate the pumps are in measuring the ltrs being pumped.

It makes you wonder.

No, but I do purchase non-ethanol (E-0) and the cash and credit prices are always identical. E-0 Regular ranges in price from below E-10 Regular to more than E-10 Premium -- go figure!

Here's another gotcha. I have a 5% credit card for gas purchase when used at the pump. If you take the credit card inside the convenience store, the discount drops to 1%. If gasoline is three dollars a gallon the difference is a $.15 reduction versus a $.03 reduction - $.12 a gallon.

I do not know if this qualifies but I bought $20.00 of gas at the Sunoco station on Hamburg near Cardiff in Rotterdam, NY with my Sunoco Card and the credit I got from my Advantage card. I should have gotten a $1.00 credit on my bill but only received a $.15 credit. Seems the station reported I only pumped 3 gallons. The credit card company was nice enough to give me the $.85 credit I deserved. If you use your advantage card and use this station and use a Sunoco card I would check your bills.

The dealer gets ripped off every time you use the credit card. Just the way it is.

I was ripped off when I pumped water/gas into my tank. Problem is I used two stations that week and the dealership did not isolate the problem with the fuel injectors. I went to another dealer who found and fixed the issue.....$ 1,000 later.
That is getting ripped off.

watch out for cash or credit "switches". there's a station in raleigh that literally doubles in price if a hurricane is within 24 hours of the mainland. cannot even believe they haven't lost their license

It's the cashier making the error. Report him or her to the manager so they can retrain the retard. You know, they don't hire the sharpest knife in the drawer for those cashier jobs.

I almost got ripped off but I checked the pump price and then drove off without filling up. It's not uncommon for station owners, who I question their ethics, to post a lower price "with car wash" but the lettering is exceptionally small so most of the time it can't be read from the street. Another station has the "with car wash" price posted in large numbers and the regular higher price in small numbers.

I have had some instances and can tell you a lot of stories about how dealers make extra money from consumers and believe it or not from the brand they sell.

At times certain brands will offer incentives to dealers to sell gift cards for their brand. They might give the dealer 3 or 4% of the sales in rebate. Dealers would take all cash sales for a period, buy gift cards with the cash and then charge the cash sales to the gift cards. Effectively generating 3 to 4% more revenue on cash sales.

Another situation with gift cards is some dealers will charge a fee for accepting a gift card. I had a couple of cards and one I knew for a fact had $15 on it. I scanned the card and started pumping gas. The pump shut off at $14. When I looked at the receipt there was a $1 service fee. When I asked inside what the deal was they said, yes we charge that to accept gift cards. The gift card was actually from the brand I was buying. I told the clerk it was wrong and would report them and they said "whatever". I called the 1-800 number on the pump and reported it. In return I got a $10 card in the mail with an apology and was told the dealer would be dealt with. Obviously I did not go back to that site to use the $10.

Dealers like cash. Watch and many times you will see stations with two cash registers. One for plastic, and one for cash. A lot of times if only one register they will not ring it up but just tell you what you owe and make change from somewhere below the counter. Either they pay no tax on those sales, or the person working the register is ripping off the station owner. Less of it since cameras were installed but it still happens.
