Apparently, modern oil formulas don't require you to change oil viscosity during hot and cold months. Moreover, synthetic oils are only required if you abuse your vehicle (towing, extreme abuse, stop-n-go traffic).

Not with the new developed oils today. I use synthetic in my truck so when I do extreme heat driving or towing, the oil can take it.

Definitely no as you would not choose a lighter oil for summer; you would choose heavier if anything.
