Credit and the last time I saw gas was higher for credit was on Melrose Ave in Hollywood, CA at a 76 gas station. I know, I saw more, while out there. Recently I have not seen it.

We use credit, unless on vacation - seems alot of stations on interstates have a better price for cash and we carry an extra tank for a total of 76 gallons - 5 cents off adds up.

"Can you imagine how much less gas they would sell at Costco, if everyone tried to pay with cash? Obviously credit cards save them big time and they also give you a substantial rebate for using a credit card."
borsht,
With exception of American Express, Costco does not accept credit cards at all, nor do they accept cash for gas purchases. They do accept Visa and Mastercard DEBIT cards with a PIN number, though. And the vast majority of stations in my area with dual pricing charge you the cash price if you use a debit card. Also, a major local chain here accepts cash at the pumps. So it's not an all or nothing proposition. Charging extra for credit card use makes sense because it costs the merchant dearly to accept them. This has been debated in these forums so many times that I'll not rehash it here.

Charging extra for the use of a credit card is either asinine or an intentional rip off. If everyone that purchased gasoline had to stand in line to pay, get change etc. They would have to hire more attendants. Thus from strictly a gasoline standpoint alone they save by your using the credit card. They also move people through the pumps a lot faster. Can you imagine how much less gas they would sell at Costco, if everyone tried to pay with cash? Obviously credit cards save them big time and they also give you a substantial rebate for using a credit card. YOu will notice that almost every station that charges extra for credit has very few customers at the station. Also, Actually, the one that pays cash usually also makes another purchase. Why do these stations carry merchandise in the store? They don't charge extra for using a credit card to purchase beer or milk. So, in actuality, They draw you into the store, give you a little discount for the trouble of making a cash purchase and hope you buy some cigarettes, beer, milk or lottery tickets. I assume that A robber loves the stations that major in cash transactions. I avoid stations that charge extra for credit.

They charge more for credit cards because they have to pay a "fee" when they turn in the charges.

Most credit prices where I live are 10 to 12 cents higher. There are just a handful that cash and credit are the same price.

Just about all the stations around here, Pinellas County, Florida charge a higher price for gas using a credit card.

I pay with credit. Gas stations in my area also offer cash price. Usually 5-10 cents less than credit price.
