Seems that right now around me diesel is cheaper than gas. That was one of the reason I bought my first diesel F-250 back in 2000.

So is diesel cheaper than gas were you live ?

Cost of diesel hasn't moved much. It's slightly cheaper than gas now only because the cost of gas went up recently..

Shoot, after today's bump in gas prices diesel is $3.99 and RUG is $4.32.

Yep, diesel is definitely always more expensive than gas....always.

ricebike, clearly you do not read the other posts!

There are several places in the country right now where diesel is less expensive than regular gasoline. It is absolutely the case here in Chicago. It is also the case where the original poster, DesertRat2011, lives. And, he continues to post here regularly as well.

And, this changes over time so this "old" thread as you call it is perfectly valid.

Personally, I am tired of ignorant people making ignorant statements about the "high" cost of diesel and how diesel is always higher than gas. The better answer is, it depends upon the season of the year, and the local refiners and the demand they see, as well as the price of soybeans (biodiesel) and other market factors.

In the SW Chicago suburb of Oswego where I refueled tonight, the three main stations with diesel, were priced thus:

Meijer
E10 gasoline $3.939/4.139/4.339
Dino diesel $3.799

Murphy USA & Speedway (both)
E10 gasoline $3.929/4.129/4.329
B-11 diesel $3.789

Yes, diesel is less expensive in and around Chicago at many stations once again.

I humbly beg to differ with my good Chicago area buddies who say diesel is only now cheaper than gas at some stations. For much of the past two years (the past seven months not withstanding), diesel has been less expensive at many stations here. I track every diesel purchase and shop for diesel on a regular basis for two cars.

Currently there are many stations in this area pricing diesel fuel lower than gasoline. When daughter #1 refueled yesterday, she paid $3.599 for B-11 at a SW suburban station selling 87 octane E-10 for $3.879.

Diesel is 1bout 15-20 cents higher than premium gas around here. Ever since the switch to low sulfur diesel the price went up and I wouldn't expect it to come back down.

when we 1st got our truck, diesel was cheaper than gas and that's why we bought it. but now it's a lot higher, wishing it will go back down like it used to be.

With the huge run-up in gas prices over the last two weeks there are some stations selling diesel cheaper than gasoline in this area but that has not been the case for several years.

I just stopped in at the following station...

Speedway
College and Green Trails
Lisle, Illinois

B-11 diesel $3.749/gallon
87 octane E10 $3.959/gallon

Diesel can be found less expensive in certain parts of the Chicago market than regular gasoline. Those who say otherwise today are simply not looking in the right places.

Yes, once again in the Chicago area it is possible to find stations where diesel fuel is priced lower than regular gasoline.

Speedway, New Lenox
87 octane E10: $3.999
B-11 diesel: $3.659

Shell, Lisle
87 octane E10: $3.819
B-11 diesel: $3.749

There may not be many, but there are enough for savvy shoppers.
