It was about .57. But adjust for inflation in todays prices that would be $1.69, Mom's station wagon in 1975 got 7mpg, my new Fiat gets 30mpg. But $3.69 is still too much.

It was $0.199 a gallon at a no-name station in Spring 1973. I looked at my old high school yearbook and they had a picture of a Standard (Indiana) gas pump. The price on it was $0.279 a gallon but Standard was the good stuff.

Interesting, not sure, maybe $.20.
Research says it was closer to $.30+

In 1960 I paid 15 cents per gallon, got green stamps and in some stations I even got a gift. My car was a 1941 Chrysler Windsor with something called "Fluid Drive", I think.... you didn't have to shift into second if you didn't want to (But it took you 5 minutes to get through an intersection...LOL) We called my car the "Green Bomb" It was a fun car and VERY comfortable.

Things were fun in those days!!!!

I also worked part-time as an emergency tow/jeep driver at 45 cents an hour for the local AAA station in the winter and a gas jockey in the spring Then I got a "big promotion" to the station's cafe as a short-order cook... that helped get me through college....
