Back in the early 90's and I am thinking it was somewhere around .89 cents a gallon, I remember getting pissed when it would pop over $1.

Back in the mid 1960's a gallon of regular cost about 25C at cut-rate stations and 28-30 cents at brand-name stations.
Sometimes stations within a few blocks of each other would have "price wars" that would drive down the prices in a small area to the low 20C to high teen per gallon range. One time only, just before I was old enough to drive, I saw price war gasoline for 12 or 15C but that didn't last long.

Somewhere in the 90 cent range. Course a pack of cigerettes were also a little over $2 and is now just shy of $6. Gotta love inflation and taxes.

I got my licence in 68 and I can remember paying 21.9 a gallon. It's hard to believe that back then I would could pull into a gas station to fill up for less than $5.00 and the service attendant would wash the windows and check the oil. I wonder if there any full service stations around anymore??

Can't say for sure about the year I got my license...
...but the year I had my first car I recall paying $0.499 for diesel on a trip from Chicago to Houston - typical suburban Chicago prices for diesel then were $0.559 or thereabouts...
...and gasoline was about 5 cents more expensive per gallon then.
I do remember paying less than forty cents for gasoline for lawn mowing, etc., a few years before I could drive.
