They should stop making it and make more regular unleaded. Maybe the price of gas will go down.

midgrade is a linear mix between regular and premium. Stations only stock regular and premium; midgrade is mixed at the pump. From what I'm hearing, it's a marketing thing to squeeze more $$ out of the folks who would otherwise use unleaded.

My wife runs mid-grade in her car that's rated for premium. She doesn't race the car so there's no point. The car runs perfectly fine and doesn't appear to have any mpg impact

One of my vehicles require premium 91, so I mix premium and regular to achieve that level, no mid-grade for me.

The big problem for a big retailer like Costco is that they sell up to 3 or 4 truckloads a day of fuel. It doesn't make sense for them to have three big storage tanks. The y need to get a much regular into the delivery as possible.
Also for anyone there is so little mid-grade sold that with ethanol the storage life in the tank would be presumable very long, so one won't be getting a fresh blend of ethanol and gasoline.

costco decided years ago that Mid-grade didn't help hardly anyone.
If you really want mid-grade, you could put in about a half of each.
You need to enter a double transaction. It would only take about an exrtra 30 secnds at the pump.

i've been told by several people to start using it, i guess it extends the life of your car and improves gas mileage

I don't see much use for it, if your car requires either regular or premium. More of a marketing gimmick.

Mid-grade is not manufactured separately. It is mixed at the gas station. Therefore, making it available is a matter of the ability to blend fuels, having the dispenser for it, and programming. No big deal.

Many stations (most???? all???) mix premium and regular to "make" mid-grade. I don't use it because it's the most expensive grade. If I needed it, I would pump some premium then some regular.
