Here, the highest octane sold is 92. However, in Vancouver, B.C., some Chevron stations sell 94 octane. It's much more expensive. In Seattle, 92 costs about $4.00 and 94 in Vancouver cost over $5.50.

How many of you would pay $1.50 more and why?

I would not because the extra octane would just make me feel better, not make the car go any faster. I have noticed that 92 makes me get better gas mileage but the difference is not enough to cover the increased cost of premium.

Nope. My gasser engine is designed to run on 87 and calibrated to expect it. Anything more is useless...Anything less, it'll retard timing to compensate

Diesel is different. The higher the cetane, the better

No!!!! If your vehicle is designed to run on regular there is no benefit to using a higher octane other than benefitting the station owner or oil company's profits.

To the original poster, you have to remember that regular costs $4.85 a gallon here in Vancouver already, yes 94 octane is more expensive, but comparing it to 92 in Seattle isn't fair... our regular is $.85 more than Seattle's 92.

No, If a car requires premium fuel it doesn't appear on my list of potential purchases.

What for? The engines today do not need all that octane. Higher octane, more repairs.

No, unless I had a special race car. Even cars that require premium in the U.S. can take 91 octane, which is premium in California.
