If every one would keep their tank half full or less the refineries storage tanks would be over flowing and they would be forced to lower prices.

So much noise about how gas is SO high, yet, historically, the inflation adjusted price is about the same now as it was in 1918!

Exactly! To keep prices down we must convince the price setters that our consumption is price sensitive. It is our duty as consumers in a (mostly) free market to "say no".

Have met far too many people who believe it is beneath them to be sensitive to $0.10. Not smart enough to realize that mere $0.10 is more like $1.80 per tank. And if a station can pump 10,000 gallons this month at $0.10 more then they most certainly will. And they'll try for $0.15 to see if they can get it.

0. You buy gas at any price, so why shouldn't the prices rise until you quit buying?

Do you really want to get serious about lowering the price of fuels at the pump ? Start thinking about the over packaged products you consume. Are you aware that the plastic used to package bottled water consumes an obscene amount of crude oil reserves. This is just one small example of products we can consume less of that is over packaged and delivered using fuel reserves.

You forgot the most important one, so oil companies can keep maintaining record profits while enjoying massive tax subsidies.

nO11:
Politics.
We have politicians in power who sleep with Wall St. The prices are kept high for the oil traders. We have local politicians who sleep with the suppliers who keep the price high foe votes. Its that simple.
