After seeing a deadly accident today maybe the speed limit should be lowered. Just saying.

If you ant to drive 55 to save gas go ahead and do it. Just make sure you are not in the left hand lanes blocking traffic or you will get a ticket for obstructing traffic.

NO NO NO NO NO!!! People are dumb and drive slow enough as it is. And when they do drive slow they don't go on the slow lane... Or when tragic is moving again they slowly gain speed which holds up traffic in the back... If anything they should raise the speed limit...

Especially if you live in a high traffic area.

that's a stupid idea. Everyone knows the most efficient speed is the lowest speed in the highest gear of a car. that can be different for every single car. Only a government operation is stupid enough to think there is one magic speed.

Contrary to what many would have you believe there are many cars getting better MPG at 65-70 than at 55. Those with poor aerodynamics will not, but for many with good aerodynamics the wind resistance does not increase as fast as the engine efficiency. For example: 2000 Avalon will get better MPG at 65-70 than at 55-60. Has a lot to do with how it is geared. An excellent aerodynamic Prius will get the lazy thinker's poorer MPG at higher speeds because its continuously variable transmission and by-wire throttle allows optimal engine speed for every condition of load.

And then there is the gross waste of fuel when people fly rather than drive 55 MPH.

Gas prices would be cheaper if the oil companies did not export so much. Lowering the speed limit will allow them to export more while keeping prices where they are.
