Is there any way to delete comments on your photos? I don't want to block all comments.
There is a "Report Abuse" link but what I am looking for should not require that strong a remedy. The particular comment I want to remove is not abusive but is completely irrelevant to the picture.

Gas_Buddy at the time of posting was not aware of some "drama" going on in GB-Land. The abuse of commenting of photos recently brought this topic up. A gas buddy member was stirring things up and first got banned on writing on white boards, even of those that were his buddies. He apparently "hacked/borrowed" an account and created more disruption. I believe he was even banned from posting in threads after a while and resorted to tagging folks pictures - and apparently sometimes quite distastefully.

This was to folks that had been buddies and did not know the full scoop of what was going on and had not removed said buddy. So, even if your pics were only available to "buddies" you were not safe. Many folks were buddies with said person from when they first joined and the "buddy collector" invited them to be buddies.

Since we can delete comments on our white boards, why not the same for comments on our pictures? I see no reason to add "pre-approval" for comments.

I like Gas_Buddy's suggestions. The last one, to me, is like "If you don't like what you're watching TV, turn the channel or turn the TV off," LOL

Suggestion for a web site improvement —
GB should not allow comments to be posted on a member’s photos without allowing that member to delete any or all of those comments. Just like the whiteboard — members can delete comments posted on their whiteboards. No reason required, just delete what you do not want there.

**** I agree ;0}

This happened to me once. I did delete all the photo's then reloaded them and restricted the access to them. Until the moderators actually do something this might be the best solution.

Beyond losing all comments along with the unwanted comment, deleting the photo and uploading it again is not a solution to the problem because if you linked to the photo from a forum post it breaks the link. Once the photo is deleted it loses it's place in the album and when the same photo is uploaded again it will have a different position (and different URL) so the links to the photo will be broken or show the wrong photo.

What Mudsprings did was wrong and I'm betting CC is the mod that won't let you back on the MSL.

I hope this issue will be addressed, or at the very least, certin members be banned for their abuse.

Unfortunately, because of his abuse of the Orange County MSL, and my attempts to correct the corruption he caused, we were both blocked from making edits, and I've been unable to persuade the mods to restore my access.

Take a look at this photo that had abuse comments posted to it (because I chose to disable comments to my whiteboard).

jrsva "We should be able to remove comments easily, just as we can remove WB posts."

Exactly. Maybe if we all bombard them with requests to remove objectionable comments they will implement this feature. ;-) <VBG>

“Delete the photo, then re-add it.”

That will indeed get rid of the unwanted comment but it will also get rid of all comments and it will reset the View counter to zero. Not a big deal but why should we have to go to that much trouble? We should be able to remove comments easily, just as we can remove WB posts.

I don't have a problem with being able to delete comments on your photos. It's a good idea. But that's different than giving prior approval of "publication of comments". If you don't want anyone to comment on your photos (just as you can deny people from posting to your whiteboard or viewing your Buddy List without approval), make the photos visible to only "My Buddies" or "Myself"; don't make them visible to "Everyone". You have those options already available.
Or, don't post your photos.

I would like to provide my support to Cookie's suggestion to be able to delete comments on our photos. There have been times I've wanted to delete comments not germane to the picture, i.e., totally off topic, but couldn't, and it's a waste of time to delete/re-add the photo to do so.

Great idea Cookie. Now, to find that other good idea - allow us to approve prior to publication of comments made on our photos.

Can we post photos and put comments on them? Never knew that. Where are these photos located? I've not seen one. Interesting.

Thanks to both of you.

jrsva: Good idea, but please post it as a separate topic so that it can stand on its own two feet and can have a link formed to it (no way to link to specific replies in a topic in this forum).

The answer to your question is no. You could request that a moderator delete (by photo ID, nickname, date and time) the post in question, but you can probably see the imposition of that if the post is not truly abusive. If you were willing to go to the trouble, you could delete and re-post the photo and re-enter all the comments in the manner of "joeblow46 said >> "[text of his post]". Lastly you could post a comment yourself saying, "I find the comment of [date, time] to be irrelevant, and if there was a method to delete it, I would use it," and let it go at that.

Maybe you could delete the photo and then repost it.
