Hello GB! Long time no see.

I've been stopping in now and then whereas I used to come by everyday (for those racing stripes... don ya know). I had 'racked up' an amazing 8 consecutive days when yesterday (Sat) a.m., I noticed what must be a Bug.

Immediately upon logging in, I proceeded to the GB Blog & News section, Clicked on one of the Topics and Clicked again to load the complete 'Story', so I could read the whole thing. Instead of commenting, I 'Backed up' to the last screen and At The TOP, I noticed I already had 50 'Today's Points'.

I thought this seemed weird and decided NOT to post and see if it repeated itself. So, I clicked on the Home button, and repeated... now, I had 100 'Today's Points'.

One more iteration netted me another 25 points and I noticed also I had 9 Consecutive Days and, basically all I had done was log in and read a couple of stories! No posting, No Voting... just logged in and logged out.

Today (Sun a.m.), I have repeated yesterday's actions EXCEPT, after racking up 125 'Today's Points', I posted a reply which included the statement, "GB, We have a problem" and 'it' rewarded me with an additional 20 points! It still displays 0 Consecutive Days but says 145 'Today's Points'.

I'm going to terminate my activity now; and try to check back in later.
Good luck with this.

To clarify what GGG said, you get points for posting in forums. HOWEVER, it is NOT necessary or desirable to have folks posting for points in the NEWS forum unless they have something substantive to say in the topic.

If you don't have anything to say in regards to a news story, go to JFF topic to post such as this one:

OK - Post your OKs for Points HERE.

RustBelt, what you observed is 'normal' behavior for points earning activity in the GB news section. When opening a news story that is located on the GB Blog, you will receive 25 points just as you would when opening any news story. Then when you clicked "Read the Full Article" the website delivers a full version of the same article, which counts for another 25 points like opening any news article, up to the limit of 5 articles per day.

It could be considered a website bug, depending on your point of view. This behavior has been as described for at least as long as I have been a member.

When you posted a reply to a news article you received 20 points. This is normal, you will get 20 points for each reply posted to any forum up to the maximum of 5 replies per day. Additional replies beyond the first 5 do not receive any more points. This also has been the same for many years.

As to your consecutive days showing as 9 on Saturday then dropping to zero on Sunday, there is not enough information to determine what happened.

To follow-up Srrapheap's post, any points earning action on Gas Buddy continues/extends your consecutive day "streak", including posting gas prices, opening the daily news articles, voting in the weekly poll, or posting a message or message reply.

Simply logging on to Gas Buddy to view gas prices or messages already started don't qualify as a point's earning action.

Does that answer your question?

Consecutive days is based on days of point earning history. This does not have to be reporting prices. Reading news articles or posting in the forums count.

    Thanks for
  the thoughtful consideration.   Now,
What happened to my "Consecutive Days"? Is that just
for Days when a Price was updated/ reported?

Yep - as indicated in the other two responses, you get points for reading news, and you get points for posting in forums. They are separate and the posting for points should be done in the JUST FOR FUN. All sense of discussion in the news forums has been obliterated by all the point posting posts that do not contribute to the discussion causing discussion posts to age off too fast....that, and the poor forum design that is not designed well to handle true discussion in large volume participation.

Since most of the "large volume" participation in the news forum is "non-discussion type of participation", if they were to REMOVE points for POSTING in news (or, for that matter, anywhere but the Just For Fun -- which could be renamed just for points and ad revenue clicks), then true discussions might actually be able to develop in the NEWS areas and other informative areas.

You get points for clicking on a news link. Open one and then click F5 4 times and you will max out your news reading points. There is no need to post a comment. In fact, unless you are actually putting thought into a comment, it would be appreciated if you didn't post in the news forums if you are just trying to get points. Large numbers of posts like "okay" or "interesting" or "Hmm" detract from those who are actually trying to have a discussion. Your posting for points would be more appropriate here.

Check out this link. It sounds like all the things you are doing are normal, unless I missed something. Haven't had my coffee yet...
