To me, I hate the fact that I can't reload the full sight on my iPhone without it going to the mobile site. Now my bookmark on my iPad is doing the same stupid thing.

Why?

If you aren't going to fix the unwanted redirection to the mobile website, at least fix your certificate(s) GasBuddy!

<GB doesn't even use https, so I didn't think they'd even have a security certificate.>

It redirects to https://m.orangecountygasprices.com/touch/

As well, if I go to the main website and switch to a different tab or to a different app for a few minutes and then come back and refresh the page, I am again redirected to https://m.orangecountygasprices.com/touch/

I had this problem on an Android phone for a while during the summer. I thought that it quit shortly after receiving updates for the Chrome and FireFox browsers and assumed that the newer version(s) resolved the problem? This may not be the case; however, jumping to the mobile version of GasBuddy rather than the full web site has not been an issue for me in recent weeks.

For what it's worth, I have Chrome version 38.0.2125.102 and FireFox version 33.0 installed on a Verizon Droid RAZR MAXX HD with the 4.4.2 OS. The 4.2.6 version of the GasBuddy app is currently installed. I have the indianagasprices.com home page saved as a bookmark in both browsers.

Hope this may be of some help for Android users, but can't speak to the problem on an iPhone.

RG

Thanks TxJeans.

There have been times when I get redirected to the mobile site when using a browser on my phone and times when it has taken directly to the full web site. It just so happens the last time I did this, I got to the full site.

How nice for you Scout.
Sometimes when I type in www.----gasprices.com (depending on site) I am able to get to the full site, other times it redirects to the "m" site. In the past when it did that, I would just link out from the links on the new "m" site without issue. Now, if it redirects me, I get the security warning.

I have had this issue as long as I have had the iphone, as long as I select the bookmark fairly quickly again it will then go to the full website version.

"I also got a security error on my Android phone when trying to go to the full site and it redirected to the "m" site and then gave the certificate error."

I was able to type in pittsburghgasprices.com and was directed to the full site on my Android. I wasn't redirected.

Furball - seems strange to me that you'd encounter a security certificate error; after all, GB doesn't even use https, so I didn't think they'd even have a security certificate.

I use to have the same issue with the mobile redirect, but I'm assuming the admins rewrote their program because now my bookmark to the full site on my iPad works every time.

This is still an issue, and now it's gotten even worse. When trying to access m.orangecountygasprices.com, I'm now getting an error:

There is a problem with this website's security certificate.

I thought it might have been just my iPad, but I get the same error in Windows 7 using IE10.

Well, it the great scheme of things, this is really not a big deal. I'm gonna have to check my tablet to see if the same thing happens.

I just can't see the benefit from opening the mobile site. If i want the mobile site, I use the phone app instead of the ipad.

To paraphrase bytebug from another thread:

"OMG! The world is coming to an end! The site defaults to and refreshes to a mobile version of the site on a mobile device! Will the sun rise tomorrow?

(No problems noted here. The appropriate version of the site opens on whatever device I use.)

This is still an issue. I can put my iPad down to go get something from the kitchen, and when I return a few minutes later, the page I was on automagically refreshes to the home page of the mobile site, which is awful behavior that should be fixed!

This is still an annoying bug that forces me to work harder to access the site, multiple times each day.

I wonder if things would be improved by "deep linking", i.e. linking to a page below the home page? The system is asking somewhere if the accessing device is a mobile device, so perhaps going to a lower page will bypass that question.

RustBelt: Basically my bookmark is the same as yours (except for me xxx="winstonsalem"), and then at the end add /index.aspx?mwo=1 (this is what appears when you get to the touch site, then tap the link for the full site, so you can save it as a bookmark/favorite site that way, too).

MF: The same thing happened to me as well: after a while, reaching the full site was not reliable, so I am putting back the old URL to /index.aspx?mwo=1. Maybe it's like having your home team always win when you wear blue socks. Whatever it takes. :-)

Ironically, the link on my iphone works every time. Maybe I shouldn't say anything or they will wreck that too.

I have a new bookmark that seems to work now, but don't let it time out, or back to the stupid mobile site for me.

CK: This evening I tried the edit you suggested - just chopping off the link to my site without the index and parameter. It worked most of the time, but the last time I tried it, it reverted to touch. Since I prefer to stay with something that works 100%, I went back to the old way. Maybe a quirk of the device, browser, OS version, or some combination thereof? Well, I did give it a shot.

MF: I edited down my bookmark to "www.gasbuddy.com/" and it still works OK. I think index.aspx is the default page and if you don't specify it in the URL, it goes there anyway. I don't know what the mwo parameter does, but obviously it is not critical. Anyone know? I suppose I could change it to 42 just to see what happens in "life, the universe and everything."

Why did the GasBuddy developers futz with the interface to make it throw us into the mobile interface?

I detest that! Used to not have the problem!

On my iPhone I use a www. bookmark to go to the full site. If I use a another window to go anywhere else, when I come back to the GBO window, I have to use the bookmark all over again, else it redirects to the mobile site. I know the site is testing for a mobile device, but I don't know why the bookmark defeats it.

Siouxfan,

I don't know if this helps on iOs, but it works for me running Chrome over Android:

1) Set a bookmark in the form "www.yourgasbuddysite.com/index.aspx?mwo=1" as BullDozer50 recommends below. (This is also what you reach by hitting the "Visit the full site." link toward the bottom of the mobile site entrance page.)

2) When signing in for the first time (or the first time after clearing browsing data) I like to leave the "Remember me" box checked when I'm on my individual device.

3) When ending your session, close your GB tab and leave your links page as the last thing you see (assuming your browser is set to open the last page(s) you were looking at). Force your browser to close using the task manager (at least on Android, the browsers I have all run in the background unless you do this).

- I find that if I leave the browser running and come back to the GB tab, that GB will revert to the mobile site every time. -

4) When you reopen the browser and use your full site link, the GB site should honor your request even if you don't have "Request desktop site" set.

Please let us know if this works for you.

I find this automatic switch to the mobile site very annoying. It's coming up as Gasbuddy Touch, a play on words of everything eye. Or 'i'

Would really prefer if it went to the regular site and those who wish could switch to mobile site but it's not for me, thanks.

Same with trying to get desktop versions of newspapers, good luck with that....

I really want to know what just changed, that this is now a problem. For several years, I have accessed the real site without ever being redirected to the mobile site on an iPad.

Oddly enough, this morning www.akrongasprices.com is not redirecting to the mobile site for me in Safari on my iPhone. Yesterday it did and I used the link to "break out" of the mobile site but today it is behaving differently (and yes I killed the browser and started a new session).

Go figure.

Is there a way on your browser to set it so it won't go to the mobile site? I know from working with software mobile/web apps are a royal pain in the rear. You have so many different browsers out there..so many different versions of those browsers and not to mention plug-ins and add-ons which cause hassles. We spent most of last week working on an issue with IE 11 and IE 12. We found a work around and told people just to use Firefox 30...which seemed to correct the issue for everyone...except ONE person. We worked with him for several hours and discovered he had an old version of a plug-in on his computer. We had him update that and then he could get to our site but apparently he couldn't get to a different site that he could before the upgrade....*sigh*. Sometimes I miss the old "green screen" days...

I agree this is a pain, but I think the GB folks were caught offguard by devices that could load the full site in a browser, but still report GPS locations.

If you use a time spotted price report on your iPad, it looks like a mobile entry, but from some distance beyond what the iOS Mobile app allows.

For the Chrome browser, the top right 3 dot options has a checkbox 'Request Desktop Site' near the bottom for sites that default to mobile, so I use that for all GB pages. Other browsers may be similar, look around.

Siouxfan,

It looks like if you change your bookmark to http://www.charlottegasprices.com/index.aspx?mwo=1, the Full site will load every time.

Scoutmaster, we were not trying to use the mobile site or the app. We were trying to get to the Full site. However if we used the browser, it defaulted to the mobile site.

Yes there is an App for the iPad. I go to some sites and it prompts me if I want to use the mobile version, but others just default to the mobile side, like GB does now.

Yeah, I can get to the full site from the iPad, but now my bookmark takes me to the mobile site first.

There must be a timeout function on my phone that automatically reverts to the mobile site, which is also a pain in the A$$. If I leave the site open in my phone, and come back to it after about 5 minutes, I get sent to the mobile version.

I would really like to know why this is. I already have the app on my phone, and I can't see any benefit from loading the app on an iPad (if there is even an iPad app available for this).

I can be on the full website and be working just fine going from page to page and then suddenly end up back on the m.site. Is there a way to bookmark and force the device to remain at the full website regardless of the device?

Sure is a mobile device, but this just started yesterday, and it has never done this before. There are many sites that the iPad will open the full site and the iPhone will default to the mobile site.

This still sucks.
