Yes, you read that correctly. And we wanted our GasBuddy Community to be the first to know! We are giving away free gas for a year to one lucky winner in our Outsmart the Pump summer sweepstakes! Another 35 lucky people will also be winners of free gas gift cards.

Please note that this sweepstakes is IN ADDITION TO our existing daily giveaways so no points are needed to participate in this summer sweeps (that gives you even MORE chances to win free gas!). All you need to do is click on this link to participate.

The main reason that we are running this summer sweepstakes is to help spread the word about GasBuddy so we can get EVEN MORE people finding cheap gas together! So a larger community means more gas prices reported and more people connecting and sharing ideas to help find cheap gas.

Here are a couple of other things that we want you to know about the summer sweepstakes:

1)The Outsmart the Pump summer sweepstakes runs from 6/16/14 - 9/8/14.

2)Here are the prizes:
---ONE (1) GRAND PRIZE: Free gas for one (1) year (awarded in the form of a $3,000 gift card).
---FIVE (5) FIRST PRIZES: A $100 gas gift card.
---TEN (10) SECOND PRIZES: A $50 gas gift card.
---TWENTY (20) THIRD PRIZES: A $25 gas gift card.

3) Here is a link to the Outsmart the Pump Summer Sweepstakes Official Rules.

4) Here is a link to the Outsmart The Pump FAQs

Glad to officially meet you all & good luck!

First, thank you Rayvn7 for your thoughtfully and, I assume, carefully worded post regarding the Gas Buddy drawings.

It seems, however, that you're confusing different drawings. The now concluded drawing for the "Free Gas for a Year" summer sweepstakes didn't reuire anyone using points to enter the drawing. And, yes, the prize was essentially ", Free Gas for a Year", or more exact, $3,000 worth of gas to the first prize winner, and lesser amounts for other winners. "The "Summer Sweepstakes" drawing did not change to "a mere $100 instead of a YEAR of free gas as it is supposed to be".

The $100 gas card prize and the drawing that reuires you use points is a drawing that Gas Buddy holds every day. Every day you can use 1,000 points to buy a ticket for the drawing, or you could buy more tickets (using multiples of 1,000 points for each ticket you want to "buy" for that day's drawing. That drawing is entirely different than the Summer Sweepstakes "Free Gas for a Year" drawing.

As the original post in this thread says, "Please note that this sweepstakes is IN ADDITION TO our existing daily giveaways so no points are needed to participate in this summer sweeps (that gives you even MORE chances to win free gas!). All you need to do is click on this link to participate." You've confused two drawings.

As for "$100 is what... one week's worth? Then why would anybody ever bother reporting more then one or two gas prices per day even though they will probably pass 20 stations or more in a day?!"

You may be correct, $100 may be a week or two's worth of gas for many people, but $100 worth of gas is better than no prize to many Gas Buddy members. And because you can earn 200 pints for each gas price posted, up to a maximum of 1,000 points per day, you can enter the drawing once a day with five gas price posts. As for passing 20 stations or more, many long time Gas Buddy members don't use their points to enter the drawing; they post gas prices to help their fellow Gas Buddy members be more knowledgeable shoppers, just as they depend on the price posting of others so they're more knowledgeable shoppers. That doesn't seem like a hard concept to understand.

A side note. The gas card prize used to be $250 worth of gas cards per week. Many people complained that they wanted more prizes, even if the prize was smaller. They wanted more chances to win than once a week. So the $250 weekly prize was changed to $100 per day. And you can win as often as you enter the day's drawing. If you think the prize is too small, join the other discussions (such as in the Suggest a Gas Buddy Improvement discussion category) and suggest what you thin the prize should be or how the drawing sould be conducted.

As for "It is EXTREMELY hard and slow to get those points...", no, it's not. You used to earn 150 points for eac gas price posted, and you now earn 200 points for each gas price posted. You earn 20 points for every message you post (up to five messages per day) and you earn 25 points for each new artile you read (up to five news articles per day). And you can earn 100 points for voting in each week's poll. Thaen it's up to you to use your points for the daily drawing or you could save your points and buy multiple tickets for a future drawing.

For perspective, even before the gas price points were increased, and even not counting the bonus points that Gas Buddy gives periodically for gas price posting, in the more than 2 1/2 years you've been a Gas Buddy member, you could have earned well over 750,000 points just posting 5 gas prices per day, and about 1 million points if you had earned all all your daily points. It's not that hard to do.

In closing, did you really mean to use the profanity in your post? Or was it unintentional? Or did someone use your screen name and password to post under your name so you'd be reported to the moderators for using vulgarity?

And speaking of "free gas for a year"... what the fuck is this $100 shit that I am seeing for using points to enter? It is EXTREMELY hard and slow to get those points, yet now you are changing it to a mere $100 instead of a YEAR of free gas as it is supposed to be?! $100 is what... one week's worth? Then why would anybody ever bother reporting more then one or two gas prices per day even though they will probably pass 20 stations or more in a day?!

Why was this not advertised more efficiently? I'm sure many loyal members never even saw the post in the forum as we usually go to our favorite topics and don't check every forum daily. As such, I bet quite a few of us didn't know about this so we didn't opt in. Pretty lame.

How can I enter??? According to the rules, it is supposed to go through today. Did you end it early?

Am I supposed to see the video every day? The rules are unclear on this point. I click the link in the rules, fill out my name and email, and then it says I'm already in the system - click "Log In." I do that, and then it tells me I've already entered for the day. I've never seen the video (the first time I tried, the browser crashed and it wouldn't let me try again.)

I'm wondering if I'm actually getting entered - is there any kind of confirmation or page to see when my entries were logged?

I would read about this on a break at work and then forget to enter later at home. I finally remembered today. Well, it only takes entering once to win. Maybe my friends/siblings/etc can win. We all win when we save money on gasoline via Gas Buddy.

If I win will mean I can move my daughter and take some road trips. Meaning I'd be able to afford driving cross country to dip my toes in the Pacific Ocean and visit many of the beautiful national parks along the way :)

Just found this by someone else posting something on Facebook about it. May have had an email back in June, but don't remember.

Why can I not make this a favorite, so I can come back easily every day? I click on the link to "Add to favorite topics" and there is a message saying it is added, but when looking at my favorite topics, it is not there.

This sweepstakes could have been publicized better.
Only found it be accident.
Too easy to forget to enter daily.
Needs to be reminder on Web page and app that you see when you do price entries.

Is this forum being monitored? I don't see answers to previous questions.

I just went to http://gasbuddy.promo.eprize.com/outsmart/
directly from the above link. There is a big blank space and no way to enter on the page.

If it has to do with flash, I have tried numerous times over months & months to update it. It never worked. I finally came to the conclusion that I must have the most recent version that my system can accept. My computer is older.

If that is what the problem is, then it would be highly unfair if only those who can afford the most recent equipment are eligible to enter a sweepstakes. The same goes for higher connection speeds necessary for watching video (re: DirtGirl's post.) I cannot easily watch videos, either. And when I do, they must be short.

BTW, I read something about notification of this sweepstakes by email. I didn't receive such an email, although GB has my email address and sends me other notifications.

Thank you.

This is kool. U kno, gas alone isn't the only thing. Gotta have good iridium spark plugs, a great full synthetic oil, a cold air intake or drop in filter (such as k&n), as well as a few other tweaks (exhaust, headers, coolant, superchip, etc) 2 really maximize what ur getting at the pump. Make that year of free gas last 1.5 years!!!
