For speed and security reasons I use NoScript to prevent selected scripts from running in the web browsers. Javascript from google domains is among things on the Not Allowed list.

At some point in 2013 changes were made to the full website that now require allowing scripts connected with google map service or changes made to the MSL can't be saved. The error message states that Latitude and Longitude are required, even if the MSL changes are not location related.

This should be changed so that MSL edits can be saved without involving google, unless the change involves the latitude or longitude of the station's location.

From my PC I can make the change without changing my script permissions. As long as I copy and paste the original values to the form. I don't know if I were to try and do it by memory and my values were off by X amount if it would save or warn me. I have not changed my scripting and this didn't use to happen. GBO mod didn't seem to know what I decribbed, and when gave more info never responded back with what was causing the system not to save.

This suggestion has been added to the Suggestion Tracking List as a new subject.

It shouldn't be that hard to add a "Non-map Change" box that would bypass the map in the saving process. An explanation could be added to the MSL station record along these lines: "Normally a Google script will need to run in order to save a modified MSL record. If you block the script by use of software, the record will not be saved unless you check the Non-map Change box, which will temporarily bypass the map and changes made to it."

Of course, if the box is checked when there are no map changes pending, it will just speed things up by bypassing a needless step.

>> Why should GasBuddy have to change their map programming for a user created issue?

I agree! There are dozens of other things that GasBuddy could improve about the website that would make things better for ALL users. If you don't trust scripts running from this website, don't worry yourself about updating the MSL. Just post a message to your local forum and there should be dozens of people less paranoid than yourself that can make the MSL changes for you.

"SimCity, why, should I have to let in Google if not doing something related to the map? "

Why should GasBuddy have to change their map programming for a user created issue?

Scout, are you using NoScripts?

SimCity, why, should I have to let in Google if not doing something related to the map?

Sounds like a user issue. Unblock the script and update, then reblock it.

Ah - I had reported this trouble but had not realized what script was still preventing it. Thanks for posting this. I ended up opening two sessions and copying the values over from the existing.

They got back and asked for more info but never heard back. I just responded back on the discussion with the link to your thread --- er, topic.

Changes to the website should be discussed in Suggest a GasBuddy Improvement.
