I live directly across the street from a gas station so my mom started entering their gas prices every morning as a help to people. This user "farmer5005" is like OBSESSED with being the best poster though and will re-enter the prices within minutes, even if they are the same, just to be the last to post. It's driving me nuts though lately because he keeps posting the wrong price. I would fix it and within minutes, he would repost the wrong prices. I don't get it. I've tried even sending GasBuddy an email to let him know that he needs to stop posting incorrect prices on purpose but he's still just obsessed with posting a price, even if it's wrong. I know it's stupid to worry about but I want to use this app and I don't trust the info now.

I must disagree. The mods have suspended and banned repeated bad price members.

They actually do not care about people posting the wrong prices anymore, they are all about the more users to make more money from ads. I have reported someone for incorrect prices over and over again. They have contacted them at least 5 times but will not do anything else, so all the person does is keep reporting the wrong prices. This app and site are going to hell and they do not care.

A member "medicfl1" has been posting gas prices at a Palm Bay SUNOCO station, even though the tanks were being replaced and I changed the station status to "Temporarily Closed". Yesterday, I verified with the station they just started selling fuel again. So I changed status to "Open for Business" and notice he has been posting prices the entire time. Wow!

Gas_Buddy: "But when there is false price posting reported to the moderators, they attempt to contact the member to ensure that the mistakes were unintentional, and if they weren't unintentional, the moderators can and will take appropriate action."

Good luck with that.
I seriously question whether the mods are paying much attention to complaints or requests for help these days. I've requested help on our site for weeks, with no response.

Patty7841:

"I went to a Citgo station...this evening as someone on Gasbuddy recorded $3.39 as the price. When I went to get gas, the price was $3.49."

You may not like the answer but if the station price was $3.49 and someone posted a price of $3.39, it's possible that the post was a simply typing error, especially if it was a quick post on a small mobile app keyboard. Mistakes can happen. What you haven't said is whether the suspected has repeatedly posted what are obvious "made up prices" or if this is the first time you've noticed this member posting "false or made up prices".

Also, and it wouldn't be the first time it's happened, a member could "mis-remember" the correct price or post a correct price but for the wrong station. Not trying to say that's what's happened but we have on gas station I've passed that sells regular for $3.35 and premium for $3.73; several very reliable members (with a long history of accurate posting) have mis-posted (my words) by posting regular as $3.37 and premium as "#3.75. Mistakes can happen.

But when there is false price posting reported to the moderators, they attempt to contact the member to ensure that the mistakes were unintentional, and if they weren't unintentional, the moderators can and will take appropriate action.

I went to a Citgo station (Providence Highway and Dean St., Norwood, MA) this evening as someone on Gasbuddy recorded $3.39 as the price. When I went to get gas, the price was $3.49. Yes, prices go up and down all day long. However, I asked the clerk at the desk and he stated that the lowest price it has been all day at this station was $3.45. I came home and looked at the price for this station before placing my post of $3.49. Someone posted an hour before I came home, again at a price of $3.39. I was just there 15 minutes ago. I do not think lying is the way to go on this site. This is the second time this has happened to me. I cannot really put my full trust in this site due to lying about prices. It is just not right!!!!

Cole2032:

First, realize the criticism below is because after almost a year of membership on Gas Buddy, your sole action has been to start this thread to say that someone is apparently monitoring your local Michigan Gas Buddy site to see who is posting prices, and that member then updates the post.

You say that member is posting prices "even if they are the same" and you then say "he would re-post the wrong prices. You say "It's driving me nuts though lately because he keeps posting the wrong price. I would fix it and within minutes, he would re-post the wrong prices."

Sorry, but I'm not sure what you'e saying. Are you saying he used to repost the correct prices and now he's posting incorrect prices (for whatever reason he may have)? If you're saying that you fixed his incorrect prices? If so, it's interesting that you apparently haven't gotten credit for posting the correct prices; your profile shows you as joining Gas Buddy in April 2013 but that you have only 120 points (100 points for joining Gas Buddy and 20 points for posting this topic).

Hopefully you realize that, assuming the other member is posting correct prices, members are encouraged to post prices (accurate prices) at any time, regardless when a previous price post was made, as each price update extends the viewing time for that gas price (prices are automatically deleted after a certain period of time, the period varying from Gas Buddy site to Gas Buddy site).

If you haven't been posting, which may be the case because you wrote "I would fix it...", meaning that you haven't fixed the incorrect price because you knew (however you knew) he would automatically post an incorrect price, how do you know he would automatically post an incorrect price in response to your post?

Maybe the question is, why not try posting gas prices to ensure that your fellow members see accurate prices, and if your posts get overwritten accurately, so be it, and if they get overwritten inaccurately, you can tell the moderators you tried and the member inaccurately overwrote your correction. You would then at least have some standing for your complaint.

But that's just my opinion.

borsht:
You wrote "Is it the complaint that got you to just become a gasbuddy?" Unless Cole2032 says otherwise, the answer is no, that's not what got him to join Gas Buddy unless this has been a year long problem and Cole2032 just got around to reporting the problem; and Cole2032 didn't say that. Cole2032 joined Gas Buddy in April 2013; almost a year ago.

Is it the complaint that got you to just become a gasbuddy?
points =1/120. Your sole post!
You obviously didn't attempt to correct the price, before posting your message.

I love it when the 1/120 users complain.

Based on you point total, you have never posted a single gas price.

Why don't you update those stations with the correct prices?
