I've had this happen several times - and again today. I submitted a news article in the Daily News Article Discussion section but it doesn't appear. However I can still view it when I choose to view topics I posted.

Yes, I have and it worked. You can't have Lundberg in the article title or url for it to post.

Has anyone tried converting to a tiny url and posting that?

This is garbage, especially since GBO doesn't let members know that there are certain forbidden words, and the news article submission requirements aren't visible until one starts to submit an article, leading to all this experimentation and speculation to try and determine what went wrong.

Making it forbidden to post the name of one of your competitors is childish.

I omitted Lundberg from the article title but since it was part of the url, it still got exiled.

I would not be surprised if "Lundberg" was in the naughty words filter for GasBuddy news article submissions. After all, GasBuddy's corporate parent is a direct competitor to Lundberg.

Thanks. Apparently GasBuddy has a beef with Lundberg or vice-versa. That will save me the waste of effort in the future.

I finally got a version of this article to show up in recent news. I purposely avoided the word "Lundberg" appearing in the title, link or snippet I provided.

There you go!

I thought maybe having a dollar sign in the title screwed it up somehow, but I'm sure I've seen that before. You experiment proves that's not the case.

You may be onto something. I tried posting essentially the same article for Reuters

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/03/23/gasoline-lundberg-idUSL1N0MK08A20140323

and it too will not show up under recent news items that can be voted on. It does show up in the discussion forum.

I suspect that Lundberg is a blacklisted topic.

Well, I tried with your new link. I got the same question after typing in the title.

"Does your article relate to any of these?
u.s. gas rises to $3.5572 per gallon in lundberg survey"

However when I finished submitting the article, I did not get the message saying that the article had already been posted. Instead it took me to the All Recent News section where you can vote and just like with you, "my" article did not post.

Thanks Scrapheap. I forgot to realize that it wouldn't post the same link twice. However, mine was the mobile version. Maybe the full version would work even though the title is the same?

I tried to post DoctorV's article. After typing in the title I got the following warning.

"Does your article relate to any of these?
u.s. gas rises to $3.5572 per gallon in lundberg survey"

I closed the warning and continued on with the posting process. After submitting the article I got this.

"*This article has already been posted. Click here to see the article."

The link took me to DoctorV's recent news thread, which has no replies.

There seems to be some sort of glitch.

Or at least try to vote for it - you'll see that you can't.

Your article is definitely on the discussions page, along with a good many other articles you have posted on that page.
Sorry, but it really looks like you posted to that page, not the "Submit News" link.

It shows up on the "Daily News Article Discussions" page if you post it to that page.
The link on the home page, under the 5 news articles, that says "Submit News", will put it on the "All Recent News" page, and there is another "Submit News" link on that page as well.

You're correct rumbleseat in that it does show in the forum's "Daily News Article Discussion" section. However, it doesn't appear on the news page, where people vote on articles. I think that's the main way members read and comment on news articles; few go to the forum section as the primary way to access the articles. I guarantee you that by this time tomorrow it doesn't have a single vote or comment.

Okay, it just happened again today and my conspiracy theory is confirmed. Once again, when I post an article about the Lundberg Survey gasoline price average, the article disappears from the Recent Gas Price News section. Does anyone else want to try it and see what happens? Article link:

On the Submit News Page (LINK) there sia yellow triangle with an exclamation point! - Read Submission Requirements.
Once I posted what was an Op-Ed piece and is totally disappeared right quick.
That might have been what happened.

Curious. I just opened the link and it shows the article having only 10 votes.

Submitting articles through the recent news section should solve your problem:

It appears that there are two message storage systems involved in displaying news articles on GB. When a news article is submitted it is posted to the storage for All Recent News so it can be displayed with the option to vote on the article; a copy is posted as a new topic in the message forum Daily News Article Discussions so members can add their responses.

They are two separate storages (real or virtual) since a new topic posted to the Daily News Article Discussions forum can be viewed and responded to, but the topic does not appear in the All Recent News page to be voted.

This mechanism can be observed if one looks at the URL of a link to an article from the Recent News page. Near the end of the URL there are two numbers separated by an underscore. The first (5-digit) number corresponds to the article index from Recent News and the second (6-digit) number corresponds to the article body and it's responses posted by members in the News Discussion forum. Changing one of the two numbers in the URL retrieves one news article and it's headline with forum responses and a topic title from another News Discussion forum topic.

The error reported by the OP may turn out to be one of those random glitches like the well known time stamp error on post responses that occurs now and then and causes post responses to be time stamped with Eastern time for members in other time zones. For whatever reason DoctorV's news submission may have been saved to the storage system but the index process not completed, so the message appears in the forum system but not the Recent News system. Of course this is conjecture on my part.

Note: In retrospect when on 1/27 I responded "Your news article does show up on the All Recent News page" I was probably looking at a different article posted by DoctorV since I clearly remember that about 1/2 hour before posting that response I viewed what I thought was the same news submission and at that time it had 17 votes, but the article in question has always had 10 votes. Too many tabs open and I got distracted.

"No, that had to be a different article."

The Recent News page only goes back 1 day. The Top 5 Articles for that day and many others are still on the Top 5 page.
On Jan 29, you needed 34 votes, on Jan 28 you needed 41 votes, on Jan 27 you needed 38 votes, on Jan 26 you needed 43 votes, on Jan 25 you needed 41 votes, just to tickle the bottom of the top 5.
You didn't have them.
The link still brings up the article because it is archived, they don't get deleted.
If nobody votes for an article in the first half hour of submission, chances are excellent it won't ever see the top 5 and it has always been that way. But the article was on the recent news page the day you posted it, and the next day, and no longer.
Unless you posted the same article twice, it was the same article that I saw. Sorry, it didn't have enough points to be bumped up to the front page, and I even voted for it for you!
There is no conspiracy.

DoctorV - To PM the moderators, click on the envelope that says Inbox in the upper right corner of the screen and then click on Moderator under My Buddies. One would think that PMing the mods should be unnecessary as posting the question in Talk Back To Us should bring the issue to their attention.

Ah, okay GoGo, I tried posting it again and it wouldn't let me because the article had already been submitted. Now I remember - when it didn't show up the first time, I tried to post it again and it was rejected because it had already been posted. But the rejection message says:

"*This article has already been posted. Click here to see the article."

The word "here" was a link to the article - the same link in my original post. That's where I copied it from.

Scrapheap, I well aware of the 2 article/6 hour limit. It's impossible to submit more than two within that time. Here's the message you get:

"You have submitted the max number of articles at this point.
You will be able to post more in 5h 47m."

The missing article was posted: Jan 27, 2014 8:46:34 AM

My most previous article to that was posted: Jan 25, 2014 4:57:15 PM (Federal regulators check Eagle Ford oil flammability)

That's more than 36 hours difference.

rumbleseat: "THEN I scrolled down through the stories on the Recent News, and it had 18 votes. YES, it was there!"

No, that had to be a different article. Click the link above in my original posting - you'll see it still only has 10 votes. And I'm sure someone would have commented on it if it had gotten 18 votes.

I don't care about the votes anyway, I just hate to waste an opportunity to submit an article just to have it disappear. Before I submitted it, the submission page said I could submit 2 news articles. After I posted it, it said I could post 1 article. So it counted the missing article as one of my two allowed submissions.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist at all, but if it's not some glitch in the forum software, the only other thing I could think of was that it was an article about gas prices by the Lundberg Survey. Maybe GB doesn't want to promote something it views as competition?

Looking at the Daily News Article Discussion forum, it appears that you posted 2 other news stories less than 6 hours before this one. It appears that you ran afoul of the new rule of no more than 2 articles in a 6 hour timeframe and the system does not give an adequate message to that effect.

DoctorV, I know what I saw.
I clicked on your link.
THEN I clicked on "Back To News".
THEN I scrolled down through the stories on the Recent News, and it had 18 votes. YES, it was there!
At the time I did that, it was yesterday's news links, can't do that today because it is no longer on the RECENT news page which only goes back one day. You needed 43 votes to tie for the Top 5 stories the day you posted it.

Find something else of interest and see what happens. Be aware a LOT of stories get submitted. Don't take it personally, life is too short to worry about a news article submission.

No, Scrapheap, it let me post it. The site won't allow you to post an article when you reach the maximum.

There are two ways to view news articles:

First, you can go to the Home tab and scroll down to "GasBuddy Blog & News" and click on the "All Recent News" link. That's where you can view submitted articles and vote on them. Mine did not show in that list. (It's too late now anyway because that list shows only the most recent 50 articles; about a day & a half's worth).

The second way is to go to the forum "Daily News Article Discussions" section. There they are listed in order of most recent response, and you can read them but not vote on them. You can view about three weeks worth of articles - mine was submitted Jan 27, 2014 8:56 AM, so it's currently on the third page.

To repeat, I posted that article but it never showed in the Recent News list, only the discussion section of the forum.

Every news article starts with 10 votes just like every Gas Buddy blog entry starts off with 20 votes (why, I don't know, seems silly). In other words, it has no votes because no one can see it. I can't even vote for it.

Your news article does show up on the All Recent News page. When it has enough votes it will take it's place on the front page among the 5 top news articles.

From the Submission Requirements on the
Submit News Article page:

5. Pump up those good articles
Articles with the most votes each hour will move to the main page.
