Just a follow-up in this thread to ask about the progress of the prioritized cash/credit issue?

Curious as to how the plan to resolve this problem has developed in recent weeks, and wondering if there is a need for beta testers or if there can be cooperation by members in any way?

The cash/credit pricing issue seems more difficult to tackle than the other equally pressing need to link price entry with MSL selections.

Hopefully, this is true and we see resolutuion to both issues this year.

Thanks again for responding here.

Thanks JT, I know it is not as easy to address as it might seem on the surface - just providing fields does not solve the problem alone.

The cash/credit pricing issue is one of the top priorities. In some parts of the US, it's become quite common, and is problematic for us. It's something that we're working on for the website and app right now.

sloopfoot:

What RichWLIN is asking isn't "what do we want the software development team to be working on in 2014", but rather he's asking "Software development team: What is it that you're working on for 2014? What are your priorities for in 2014".

As for our making recommendations for what they should be doing, that's a different issue/different thread.

In my opinion.

sloopfoot asks: "So if someone thinks one of the app awards should be worked on, isnt that on topic?"

If the "someone" you are referring to is responsible for the development priorities of GasBuddy this year...then yes.

Let's be patient. A moderator may yet respond. If one does, surely it won't be to inform us that the app awards are considered a priority; at least, there remains that hope.

Isnt the mobile apps consider software? So if someone thinks one of the app awards should be worked on, isnt that on topic?

The term "development team" in the original post was derived from a message posted by a moderator sometime back who was responding to a suggestion.

True, I added the word software assuming that the people who develop the web site do so with some knowledge of and expertise with the programming.

Now that this is all cleared up, maybe we can hear back from a team member?

RichWLIN's intent was clear to me too, and I was simply suggesting that it apparently wasn't clear to everyone (and by reading borsht's post, it was apparent to me that it wasn't clear to everyone).

Just because there's a software development team doesn't mean that it's a large or even full time activity. Maintenance and development are likely separate issues. For that reason I would probably change RichWLIN's original post wording from "What are the priorities of the GasBuddy software development team in 2014?" to "What are the priorities of the GasBuddy management team in 2014?" But's that just my choice of words; I'm not disagreeing with RichWLIN's.

RG, your intent was clear to me...and I would hope that the Night Owl award would not make the 2014 hit parade with the GBO PTB and their developers. I am sure that the "developers" take their direction from the PTB at GBO, even if they have their own list they would like to implement...

What constitutes the "Gasbuddy software development team" is another topic ;-)

I don't have any problem with anyone else's idea of what is important, but do think that it is essential to stay on topic.

I was clearly asking the GB software development team what their priorites are this year, and threw out for discussion what would seem to be the top two issues raised here over that last couple years.

I am surprised to find the Night Owl award of the mobile app making anyone's hit parade? Perhaps borsht just misunderstood?

I'm thinking there's confusion here.

RichWLIN, I assume, is asking the moderators "What are your priorities in 2014 for the Gas Buddy website and mobile apps" whereas borsht, I think, is saying "This is a priority to me."

One is asking the people that operate the website/mobile apps what they intend to do, whereas the other is saying "this is what I want done in 2014."

Seems to me like different readings of the original post.

@Borsht
As RG pointed out, your post does not fit with the topic at hand. There is another thread about the NIGHT OWL: here

If there is a night owl award, why not provide information on which stations are open from 12AM to 6AM.

Otherwise it seems like the night owl award is the most useless of the awards.
And in general, what is the purpose of the special awards?

Then we would need good volunteers to update the Master Station List when the gas station changes.

I believe the number one suggestion/request over the last two years has been for GasBuddy software developers to implement changes to the price reporting protocol that will permit price entry of only those fuel grades that exist as a station feature on the Master Station List (MSL). The Cash/Credit issue probably runs neck and neck with constraining price entries to grades of fuel on the MSL.

Addressing these two issues during 2014 would result in significantly more accurate price reporting and perhaps greater potential for fuel cost savings. Is there a reason why these suggestions can not or will not be undertaken seriously this year?
