Is it just me or is the web site having problems. I am seeing low prices from who knows where and high prices that appear to be Canadian. My favorites are also gone.

I searched and found nothing posted.

Sounds like we may have solved the missing logo/weird prices issues. Awesome feedback everyone. Thank you again!

Good here!
3+days...

Messed up home price page issue appears to be fixed.
Thanks for finding the gremlin!

dirt_girl;
No time vortex on GB yet, think that is still in Beta testing. :D
(joking)

Cheers,

Still good here; looks like it is fixed for a lot of us. :o)

Hi DG, right, if you bookmark the map for a site in CT and open it in PT it will revert to CT. The solution to this is to bookmark another copy of the map in a western site or even go to Hawaii. The URL for one of my bookmarks is:
http://www.virginiagasprices.com/Map_Gas_Prices.aspx?z=10&lat=38.144&long=-79.06&ft=A&tl=All
You can change any of the parameters to suit your own needs.
z=10 is the zoom level; smaller numbers show a larger area.
lat and lon are for the center of the map; note that lon is a negative number.
I don’t know what ft=A means so I just left it alone.
tl=All is the time menu; All shows all stations whether there is a recent price or not.

I sent you a buddy request so we can discuss this without cluttering up the forum, in case you have issues.

Thanks JF, so far so good. :)

jrsva, So I bookmark the stations that I usually post using the TCGP url. Now, it's Monday evening and I've fallen asleep. I wake up and it's after midnight and I have to time travel to get the points for the day. It would seem to me that the bookmark wouldn't be effective for Mondays points but be added to Tuesdays points.

That's right, Goldie. Try bookmarking the map locations that you use frequently, as per my post right below yours; that saves a lot of time when you want to go to a map.   ;o)

Hello Everyone,

We have just fixed the logging out issues. We accidentally rolled out a setting from our test site to the production site that caused sessions to end after one minute. It should be all good now.

Mostly still stable. Slight problem on IE, but it is IE after all and unless it repeats, I am assuming that IE was cranky this morning when woken early. ;-)

I’m still stable since the update on Friday afternoon.

I have not noticed any problems with Map Gas Prices except that for one area and one particular zoom setting one of the tiles that make up the map is mislocated. Zoom in one step and it is OK or zoom out one step and it is OK. Strange but not really a problem. The map is stable and the price windows open promptly.

I have bookmarked about five maps for the areas that I use frequently. The bookmarked URLs contain the lat/lon for the desired location, the zoom level, and the “All Stations” time selector. This makes it much easier and quicker to bring up the map for a desired area — no searching, fussing with the time menu or zooming in — one click and Im there.

buckeyecountry, This site has had problems with polls on Sundays before and they are always fixed. You will find that you can still get your points this week. If for some reason they can't fix it, then everyone is in the same boat. :)

goldieolds, I've noticed that same thing with the price maps too. Now when I punch in the zipcode I have been for the last few years, it shows almost the entire TC metro area, (Woodbury to Plymouth and Columbia Hts to Eagan) about 30 miles by 25 miles while the actual zipcode area that used to show was about 5 miles by 5 miles. I have found that by zooming in 2 notches on the bar that I get an area somewhat smaller than it used to be.

I didn't know that the map search was broken but I guess it got fixed. Now it takes an extra step to get where I want to be on the map.

still good, cross my fingers...

Poll looks the same to me too (broken, as Bad Petroleum said below), no answers, just the question, and the 'vote' button does nothing.
[and my site and all is 'normal' right now, so must be an unrelated issue to the one we were having; perhaps poll put up wrong]
It reflects that it is being 'pressed' by the mouse click, but nothing else happens, points stay the same, (context menu is as if over 'empty' part of page, possibly expected, not checked right click menu before).

bytebug;

Do I have this correct; you have price pages open for those days for those sites?
(not in and out, like you did before?)
Just to clarify, as we don't always understand what you mean you have open...
Thanks.

KL

Byte - I am glad you are so special and never had any problems. But, the problems were real for many of us. We all did not change how we had our computers setup or how we accessed GB all about the same time at the beginning of last month.

I am now stable on 1 PC, 3 browsers and 3-4 different sites for at least 3-4 extended away / hibernation sessions including disconnecting from one network and connecting to a second one.

With a subject like "This Site Having Problems?" it is fairly open ended as to what complaints might be posted here.

Still logged in on the multiple windows I opened a few days ago. Posting this from the Tampa site.

The poll not working is not related to this and BP (formerly banned member Rotsque) should have posted this in this topic.

I have been logged out without my intention and at other times my cache has been cleared for no apparent reason, but these have not happened enough for me to consider them a problem.

A bigger aggravation for me is the change in the way the gas price maps open and their instability lately.

I've used the maps for years now and this is not a usual occurrence. Now, many times when I click on a station to either read its prices or to post prices, instead of opening it zooms in. Sometimes it opens on the next try, but more often it just keeps zooming in every time I try to open it. Adding to the aggravation is that it often opens in a different geographical location. For example, if I am trying to open a station in Richfield, it might end up zooming in to St. Paul. It is also even more difficult than usual to view a station that is covered up by a SA (or Marathon) flag.

The other thing is that when the map opens now, it has a wider angle of view than it used to, meaning that it shows a wider geographic area. This means that there are a lot more prices jammed in and on top of each other, making it harder for one to get their bearings and find the area they are interested in. And if one does locate the correct area without zooming, it means some stations are covered up and not visible.

All of this extra zooming and shifting of locale means longer wait times while its loading. Since we don't all have fast systems, this can add a lot of waiting time.

I use firefox on a Mac desktop with "slow DSL". I usually leave my tab open and stay logged in, unless it logs me out.

My Home Page & Favorite Stations are still intact, for now :o\

jrsva, totally agree with you 100%! The patch they did on Friday helped some but created a problem for others :( No, never had problems with this site before.

TxJeans, have also cleared the cookies & did a restart, but did NOT click on "remember me". Never had that clicked on before & like dirt girl, would rather NOT. Don't feel that I should have to since it's NOT mandatory....
I will have to copy this post then log back in, as I get logged out if I don't post within 2 or 3 seconds.

so far so good. (but not 2 days yet, and typically 2nd or 3rd day messes up)

I used to stay logged in all the time, whether my computer was on or off, or on the site.
I do have the 'remember me' checked, as I don't roam or wifi (desktop).
I do not know if it was always checked over the past years when I was always logged in after I opened my browser, or used a bookmark to get here.

I do notice it is in one of the cookies (loaded from the server), but this bit of info doesn't lead me anywhere.
It is just there.
correct that:
I see in contains 'save password', no reference to, or if that affects 'stay logged in'.
It is my 'member' cookie;
this is inside with more stuff:
save_pwd=Y

jrsva;
I had not seen Canadian yet, and was curious if all others had.
I assumed it is just junk, but was checking if we see different 'junk' depending on where we are (home site).
Just in case I could find common threads, or location dependencies...

I did have two versions of messed up, and perhaps did not define them well.
One is where everything is messed up, and junk (and think logged out).
And the other is where my search cities show up, (and I'm logged in), but all my normal stuff missing, and drop downs not populated in 'Report Gas Prices' and 'Search Gas Prices' boxes, (and I think stations maybe missing in price list, not sure - when this way).
Funny thing is that it displays cities from my area, even though the forms don't work right, and fav's gone.

.
dirt girl; lol your comment about the flashing and if computer ready to explode. lol

PC issue seems resolved for now.

Android issue when accessing full website, still shows Category page but no message topics when clicking on them. Same with the news articles, message says topic isn't available. I did oddly enough get points for clicking on them.

Have cleared cookies and restarted. So far so good as I'd rather not have "remember me" checked.

Oops, spoke too soon as it logged me out right after that post and when I hit the edit button to edit this post. :(

(second edit)

So it allows me to edit my post without being logged in (which makes sense when you think about it). When I went to write a new post it logged me out again.

Seems fine for me. I even hibernated my PC and took it out away from Internet and back onto a different Internet access and unhibernated and refreshed my pages w/out being logged out.

I do keep the "remember me" checked. I have not tried unchecking that to see if can reproduce ottacaah and dirt_girl. For those two, have you cleared your cookies and restarted your browser to see if going forward you still have the problem?

So far so good for me. I have not had a crash since JF reported installing the latest software patch, Friday at 1539 ET. Fingers crossed.

JF, it looks like your latest patch may have fixed the problem for some and started it for others. At least Dirtgirl, Sticker, and Outtacash have not been reporting it if they’ve had problems before. I’m guessing it is new for them after the latest patch.

KL, I believe folks are reporting the FUBAR price data as Canadian only because some of the numbers are in the 100-150 range (¢/L) rather than the 2.70-3.70 range ($/gal). The stations and prices are different every time the system messes up. Typically it is a mixture of US and Canadian prices but the stations are all over in both countries, not just Alabama. I have seen a price for Abbotsford, BC, show up in the garbage and once a price that I had posted for Staunton, VA. I have positively identified several other states but I did not keep notes so I can’t say what they were. I doubt that there is any meaning to the garbage — just a barf up of random data.

GB site is still logging me out.
Haven't had anymore missing header site name, FSL and with Canadian prices for a few days now.
The check box is checked on the log-in page.

iPad 4
IOS 7.0.4
Safari
Google is the search engine

iPhone 4 is still working fine and settings are exactly the same as the iPad 4.

TxJeans, I see the same page that I see when I'm logged in.

JF, I couldn't even post a reply here without checking the "remember me" box on the log in page. I can't post anything withouth checking the box.

Considering that I've spent 9+ years on this site without checking it, I'd say some fix that was made has had an effect on this feature.

On the TCGP site right now but this also happened on the HawaiiGP site last night. Using XP SP3 with IE6 or 7 (can't recall).

Maybe GB doesn't like the cold. We have to blame JT and his northern connections for that. ;)

Oh,oh, now the "Done" message that shows up at the bottom left of the screen when a page loads is flashing. Does this mean that my desktop is going to explode? Never seen that happen before.

Obviously now it has worked. But I am sure, not for long.

Got home last night and all was fine on three browser and 3+ sites.
This morning, all three browsers and 3+ sites are fine.
Keeping fingers crossed that I am now free of the mess.

Trobuleshooter - I haven't had the messed up screen in almost 24 hours so I can't confirm absolutely, but I am pretty sure what I saw was Canadian. jrsva posted screen shots but resolution not good enough to see on our end. Next time could you put up at imgur.com or photobucket or someplace and give a link?

dirt-girl - please provide more details of device/OS, and browser. What exactly happens when you get logged out. What you are describing sounds like it may be a different problem. Most of us are experiencing the problem after having the site open extended periods (far more than 15 minutes). What exactly do you see when you "get logged out".

The problem acts almost like a server needs rebooted or data is being corrupted in some way.

Troubleshooter, the prices I see when it's messed up are in liters, not gallons. All the stations show the liter price, no station name, no address. It does show the area name and some member names.

Accessing GB on my PC was fine initially this morning at 2:00 AM, then it behaved abnormal at 4:10 AM but didn't log me out. Favorite stations were missing and Category page behaved like it did on my phone. After refreshing only, things returned to normal but the site was slow and sluggish.

The same issues I described in an earlier post remain when accessing the full website on android smartphone. At 12:35 AM EST I was able to update prices on my phone and as soon as I clicked submit, the screen went to the options page for the GB App which I have not downloaded and do not want. I then had to click "Go to full website" and begin again. When I clicked on news and blog articles, every one of them had the disclaimer "We're sorry! This topic does not exist". Categorie board still shows all discussion titles but no topics to choose from in any of those categories.

Oh great, another ghost in the machine.

Can't even post a few lines in a response without being logged out.

Tried to use spellcheck on the "buddy" message forum tonight and it logged me out...lost the post.

Have never checked the "remember me" box when logging in and have never had a problem being logged out unless a significant amount of time (15-20 minutes or more) had passed.

Not a happy camper. :(

I myself only noticed the EST thing (on this forum page) yesterday, as I was not as concerned about the forums.
They seemed to work fine here when the price home page is bad; but I figured I should report my observations in case they are relevant clues for the mods.
So, I also looked to see if it was counting my posting points, while messed up, and as near as I could tell, it credited 20 pts to me while messed up.
[condition: messed up, logged in I think, no entry means on price home page, EST, and Alabama cities showing; IIRC]

For those reporting 'Canadian' locations and or prices showing?
The cities I see look Canadian (on those few that it actually displays a city, no stations show, and most entries are blank except the price and poster's name).
But they are not Canadian, they are Alabama, I believe.
And the states in the area box shows 'Alabama' in light grey, and of course there are no drop downs loaded into the menus, so can't pick any other states or cities, or stations.
So, I think the default location fails to 'Alabama', {and finds, perhaps those, not assigned to a 'city'??).

I remember part of the gulf states were populated by Canadians, Cajun? IIRC. (was it French-Canadian? forget my history), so (I suspect) many of the cities names might sound Canadian...

I did a map open link on 3 that did have cities posted, on my page when it is messed up, and they came up in Alabama, IIRC.

Those of you mentioning Canadian:
Are you sure you're getting Canadian prices and cities, or was that an assumption (just so I know if I'm seeing the same stuff you are).

The high price box I get is not liter prices, it appears to be dollar prices that omitted the decimal point, but got submitted anyway...

Just so I know if we are all getting the same garbage, or if it is different for everyone.
Mine seems to be the same each time (different particular prices and submitting members, AFAIK, but same general area and page appearance).

No way to enter a price when it is this way.
(have not tried to use the map of USA, and go to my city, only way I did not try).

I assumed the $hundred prices were all the misposts nationwide that missed the decimal point, but it could just be Alabama misposts, in that 'highest prices' category box...

Until today I have never had any of the problems mentioned here, however....this evening is a totally different story. I keep getting logged out after every post, and at times it logs out before I'm even done typing a short post. Have tried both FF, which I've always used, and also Chrome. Same thing happens on both.

Hopefully I'm still logged in to post this!

PS - Took awhile for it to post but as soon as it did, was logged out....AGAIN

Thanks JF, let’s hope we have seen the back of this. Watching with bated breath.

KL, when the system goes awry all times seem to revert to ET; sorry I neglected to mention this before. I think it has been true each time.

Alright. We have just made at 3:39pm eastern time. We've changed the way we handled these sessions on our servers. Microsoft gives us a two options. Let us know if you see these same issues. Thanks!

JF wrote "The thing that has us confused is why this is happening? And why is it only affecting some people? And of course we have not been able to reproduce the behavior ourselves." Maybe logging in as a member without moderator permissions would replicate what members are experiencing?

This is happening to more members than you think although some of us search first to see if anyone else is having the same trouble and then reading the advice offered and whatever fixes have been done to stop it.

This is precisely what's happening. Cookies are enabled on my PC and Android phone for GB and private email. Because I choose Remember Me, I stay logged in even when closing GB website and powering down the PC and phone. Until last week I remained logged in 6 years on my PC and 1 year on my Android smart phone.

First problem for me happened last week on my PC using Win XP IE7 around 1:00 AM EST. I accessed the website, updated prices from my favorites list, clicked submit and poof, I was logged out. Logged back in and all prices were Canadian and my favorite list gone. Price submission from earlier attempt failed to update. Rebooted PC, accessed the website, was still logged in and favorite list showing. Updated my prices and got all points for the day. This issue has occurred twice since then.

Android smart phone issue occurred after midnight today (Friday 12/6/13). I always choose to access the full website on my Motorola Admiral. Same scenario as with PC. Initially was logged in, updated prices, clicked submit, was logged out, no price update and no favorites list. All prices on board were Canadian with garbled content. Logged back in, favorite list seemed okay, updated prices from it, read news and all points showed properly. Category board appeared normal with all discussions listed. Decided to go to Favorite Topics and all it showed was Category>Favorites List> Category. Clicked on TBTU, again it showed Category>Talk Back to Us!> Category. All topics within any discussion was absent. Powered phone off, turned it back on, accessed website. Was still logged in, favorites list in place, local (or somewhat local within 100 miles) prices showing properly). Category options page showed all discussions options. Clicked Favorite Topics, still showing category>Favorite Topics>Category. Same with any other discussion I clicked. The discussion topics were still absent from the screen.

At the same time I was able to access GB from my PC and everything was normal (though it remained messed up on my phone). I was still logged in, my favorites list in place, Favorite Topics available and it showed I had points from updating them moments before on my Android.

On PC I usually have maximum 3 tabs open at the same time to other websites other than GB. Hope that info helps.

FYI, I never said, but I allow pop ups, and cookies, don't have any ad-blocker.

another tell tale is here, on this forum site, my time goes from CST to EST.
last night, I had posted at 7:07:40PM, went to the store at 8PM, and back at 8:30, my post stated it was made at 8:07:40PM, and 'Gas Prices' in the tab name here, and my other tab with prices was messed up.

Fixed my home prices page, and that made THIS page go back to CST, and my post was shown as 7:07:40PM again.

The info you are providing is perfect. Items like web browser, Time of the day, the site you are trying to visit and what you were doing when the issue occurs is super helpful.

jrsva...I appreciate the offer to help us. We need to be able to reproduce the issue. If we could figure that out we could set up a call. It seems like we are really close to figuring out the steps. We will reach out to you if needed. Thank you.

Thank you all for your help!
