I just noticed that "Post a Reply" has been moved to the bottom right of the original post and "Ignore Short Messages" has also been moved to the bottom of the original post. Good move. Get's it away for the "Ignore (member name)"

Don't ya just love it when ya gotta find out this stuff on your own without any notice from TPTB?

Or even "Ignore me" and "Report me". (Cf. "Kick me". Or "How's my driving".) It could also be set in a smaller than normal font, I suppose.

"But the user info box is already too crowded"

"It would increase the height of the table but if they increased the width these could be put side by side instead of stacked."

I had considered these points when I posted, but I think the crowding and height repercussions can be mitigated somewhat by changing the text of the link from "Ignore [user name]" to "Ignore user." That would set a hard limit on the length of the link, as some longer usernames would cause the link to wrap within the box.

The appropriate spot for the "Ignore ....." and "Report Abuse" is in the author info box. It would increase the height of the table but if they increased the width these could be put side by side instead of stacked.

The "Ignore" and "Report Abuse" buttons are surely used much less often than "Post a Reply", and it's sensible to consider making them harder to click by accident. But the user info box is already too crowded -- look at how much screen space is consumed for even a one-line response like scoutmaster's, compared to when such a post is made by a moderator, whose info box is more concise.

Moving one or both into the user's profile page would work, except that I'm guessing that the mods would prefer for them to be visible here on the forum page itself, where they can be used by naive members who aren't interested in drilling down through a profile to find what they want.

Personally, I've always preferred the Ignore link be moved to the author's information box.
<------- Like right here, perhaps underneath the joined date. The Ignore function pertains to a user, not an individual post, so it should be with the user's info. That would move it far enough away from the Post a Reply link and keep the PaR link in the same general area (right side) where it has been.

"It's been suggested that "Post a Reply" be moved to the middle of the blue bar, which I guess would leave empty space at the right end. What about instead swapping it with "Ignore Short Messages"? That way, "Post a Reply" is not so close to any item that might be clicked by mistake, and the two items on that line won't be crowding each other. "

Hmm, that's a pretty big move across the screen for some of us, who don't like change. Just when I get my muscle memory to move to the new spot, you want to change it again???

I'd have preferred it if they had moved the Ignore function as that's a far less frequently used click. Perhaps it could be put into the member Profile area, so when you click on that member, you'd have the option to Ignore them that way.

I Photoshopped the current and proposed layout and posted it in the GB album on my profile page. Let’s see if I can link directly to it.

Nope; this takes you to the album and the desired slide is "Proposed Change" . . .

I hadn't noticed this when I suggested it, but it also puts "Post a Reply" next to "Replies", which seems to make sense conceptually.

This really does make a lot of sense. I wonder if we can talk the Mods into making the change. The blue bar would then read like this:

REPLIES (newest first)   Post a Reply                                               Ignore Short Messages

I like the idea of swapping the positions as well. I would also move the check box for "ignore membername" to the end of the phrase where it will be above the "Report Abuse". That way if they click ignore short message and miss they will likely pull up the report abuse which they will then realize is not what they wanted and can back out of it.

I like that idea kwzh. "Post a Reply" is still too close to an ignore and you suggestion would move it away from an ignore and stack "Ignore Short Messages" above the other ignore. Actually I love this idea!

Dadown, you cannot recreate a Saved Search while the site is messed up and you do not have to. Generally the problem is resolved by deleting the GB cookies and clearing the cache where recently-visited web pages are stored. When you log in after doing this your FSL and searches should be back. I suspect the programmers will have this problem solved in a few days.

When the system is experiencing problems that manifest as the absence of a list that you normally control, I'd say that it's better to wait for it to come back on its own. If you try to regenerate it, then a likely result is that after it comes back, you'll have two copies of the stuff in that list.

"My Favorite Stations" has disappeared as well as my search list. To top it all off, when I try to recreate my search list I keep getting an empty list (Tulsa - East).

For me it's every month or so. My poll vote won't register, so I clear cache and all active logins, then everything is fine again for a while. But when that happens, I'm still logged in and can post prices as me, update the MSL, FSL appears correctly, etc. Been that way ever since I joined. Using XP Home/FF25 (mostly) and Win7/FF25.

I started with the log outs. First I could just log back in automatically. Next it wouldn't take my PW, and I had to re-enter the password (same one). Then I have had the messed up display a few times had had to clear cache. And, now I am still logged in, but see the font size changed on the reply to.

I have not seen this iterative approach to rolling out changes over a week before...

Using Win 7/FF25

I thought things had cleared up but site problems continue and it is getting truly aggravating. Is everyone else being logged out every little while and having to clear cookies in order to log back in? I used to stay logged in continuously for a year, now I’m bumped out every couple of hours.

When the problem first appeared (no FSL, no Saved Searches, and garbage in the hi-lo price tables) it was resolved by clearing the cache and cookies. Every time I leave the computer unattended for an hour or so I find myself logged out. If I log in without clearing cookies it is back to garbage again. I’m using Win7-Pro and FF 25.0 browser.

Minor issue: I see that the Post a Reply button is now in a smaller font but still near the right end of the blue bar. Several of us have suggested that it be centered in the blue bar in order to gain separation from the Ignore and Abuse buttons.

Vanho :"Where did "My Stations" go? Only a default to my city is available below Lowest & Highest Prices lists."

Hello Vanho, could you clarify a bit about what you are seeing/not seeing - Main website, mobile website, old mobile website, APP? What hardware/browser etc.

I suspect what you are seeing is related to some other posts- try clearing your cache, logging out and logging back in.

Where did "My Stations" go? Only a default to my city is available below Lowest & Highest Prices lists.
I like the "Post a Reply" prominance.
Highest prices have several with 135 as an amount. What is that?

I am sure he probably has something stored somewhere or will photoshop something as he remembers it. He is good at editing out what he wants and editing in what he wants and has many wikis and PB stuff stashed away.

Personally, I don't care. As long as it appears they are ready to start making some changes and did listen to previous threads about the reply to, short messages and ignore.

Kwzh asked, “What used to be in the rightmost part of the blue bar, if anything?”

I believe that the links to the four pages of messages used to be there; these have now been moved to the bar above the OP. Sadly, Web Archive does not seem to provide access to the forum pages. It will be hard to know exactly what it used to look like unless someone has saved a screen shot.

I'd like to see it centered, too. Right now there's too much distance between that button and the post message button. But I agree that as is, it's a definite improvement.

Before new muscle memory started to develop, I wasn't real sure, but after about a thousand posts, I'm not tracing back to the top nearly as much and finding the new position, though less reliable if the OP is long, better than before.

Also, where there are multiple pages in a topic the page numbers are now at the top and bottom of the topic. Plus "Post a Reply" and "Back to Topic" are now at the bottom of the topic. All good formatting changes in my opinion.

Moving the “Post a Reply” button to the blue bar below the OP is a great move, one that has been requested many times. The bold font helps too. It would be even better if it was centered in the blue bar, farther away from the “Ignore Member” and “Report Abuse” buttons, which would reduce errors from errant mouse clicks. “Ignore Short Messages” has not been moved. They could get rid of the check box for it, since clicking anywhere on the words has the same effect.

Takes a little getting used to.

I guess I would have preferred leaving it where it was and moving the ignore to the bottom of the OP.

I noticed a bit ago that it looked different, but was multi-tasking at the time and just got back to look at it. I think the bolder Post a Reply and format looks better. I also think the contrast seems a bit brighter again.

I also found myself logged out several times tonight unexpectedly. But seem to be back in okay now.

I haven't seen any of the notices (cash/credit) popping up as kwzh mentioned in the other thread.
