As seen in this screen snapshot*, the new dialog asking whether this station has separate cash/credit prices extends off the left edge of the screen, rendering most of it unreadable (though I was able to guess the contents, and confirm by viewing the current page source with Ctrl-U). Obviously, this also makes it very difficult** to answer the question with anything other than "Not Sure"! Having it point from the right instead of the left would presumably allow it to fit, but in that case it might be obscuring information that the user needs to see in order to confirm which station is under consideration.

Prices entered at 2013-11-04 17:08 PST from http://www.sanjosegasprices.com/ using FSL fields; via browser Firefox 23.0; on system Linux version 3.2.0-52-generic-pae (buildd@batsu) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu5) ) #78-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 26 16:43:19 UTC 2013

*Before uploading the image, I cropped it on top, right, and bottom only; the left edge corresponds to the actual left edge of my screen. The image will be available on the server for at most two weeks.

**But not quite impossible. Knowing the structure of the dialog element, I was able to do a mouseless navigation with Ctrl-F sh/credit TAB TAB TAB, confirm that the half-visible "Not Sure" button was now highlighted, then Shift-TAB Shift-TAB Enter to select the "Yes" button, which was the correct answer in this case.

jrsva - exactly why a durable flag is a good first step. There is no easy button - and the reason the FAQ changed from cash, to credit and back to cash is that in the majority of the cases cash is what is posted on the big sign. It is less about the "cheapest" and more about what is really being posted. Unfortunately, the changes in the FAQ back to CASH was not well publicized.

Even here, where they must post a cash or branded card "hang tag" near the street price board, they are often NOT lit at night except by the "glow" from the price sign, and easily missed, especially by those not aware of the required sign.

DURABLE flag is a good first step. If they can put all the special "GB DIRECT" tags, they can create a durable flag tied to the MSL. It won't be perfect as pointed out that some only charge a credit surcharge for some fuel grades, but not all. But, it allows the buyer to beware. This is especially important when driving outside one's home market on the expressway so you don't pass that good station for a "cash teaser" further down the road.

Interestingly, I have only had one day of the pop up...Even though I reported stations that I have not had the pop up display for yet.

Dual-priced stations are not the norm here. A few have such a policy but in most cases there is no way to tell if there is a credit surcharge without going into the station to check for separate cash/credit pumps or signs. I have checked my local stations but when I am on the road, as today, and report 30 or 40 stations, I post the prices on the large signs and have no idea if there is a credit surcharge or not.

Why is it asking about stations that have already had the checkmark checked in the MSL? I went through the stations I regularly visit to make sure that checkmark was checked, so it is more of an annoyance now for those popups than actual data gathering.

Thank you for the reminder jrsva.

I have used the MSL feature to update the info for one station and will research the other.

TxJeans,

Maybe it's easier in my area. Dual priced stations are not the norm hear. In fact, there are very very few.

Scoutmaster - I am familiar with the area where I live, but NOT familiar with all stations where I live. I tend to have certain locations and brands that I prefer and they also tend to be best priced so I don't know if that station on the next block that just changed to Valero is cash/credit UNLESS I happen to catch the small hang tag required here for those stations.

I would think those that answer "Not sure" would be people who are not familiar with the area. Those that are familiar with the area should be able to answer yes or no.

I said "no member will be asked twice about the same station", which is how I expect it's actually been implemented, but it might be less than ideal. If the member answers "Not sure" the first time around, but then is inspired to go find out the answer, then a second prompt might be a smart move. In theory.

In practice, I imagine that the members most likely to be affected in this way are already aware of how to provide the info via the MSL, and the rest of the population will be annoyed, rather than inspired, by getting such prompts.

Jed, you will not see this notification more than once for a given station. If you have definite info about the policy of a station, go into the MSL and check the box accordingly.

Now is a good time to mention a feature that has been asked for repeatedly in recent years, which is to replace the check boxes for station features in the MSL with radio buttons labeled Yes, No and Unknown, with the default set at Unknown.

A check box provides information only if it is checked. An unchecked box could mean the feature is absent or it could mean that noone has noticed. A radio button allows only one of the three choices to be selected, as in answering the weekly poll. Use of radio buttons would encourage members to observe station features and get rid of the “Unknown” features in the MSL.

Hello and a great Veterans Day to Vets and loved ones.

Regarding the Cash and Credit difference. My posts were polled once; and, as a result, I asked more questions of the stations I monitor by phone.

Two others are found to have cash and credit differences in pricing.

How do I get that differential notated again? The flags which questioned me were only up once on my reporting list.

Thank you for any usefull feedback.

Yep, it's working now. Good job.

scoutmaster, one of the criteria was stated to be that no member will be asked twice about the same station.

You will not get the pop up all the time scoutmaster. There is criteria that is used to determine when it shows up. Just like on the app.

For those who are still seeing the too-far-left dialog, see the second footnote of the top post for a workaround. Backtab twice to reach "Yes", or once to reach "No".

I posted some dual-priced stations from a different computer/browser combination at the library, but I didn't get the popup that time.

Still experiencing the pop up off the screen to the left even after clearing cache, logging out and back in several times. Tried logging out, clearing cache and logging back in sequence as well.

Incidentally, I'm on a Windows 8 notebook using IE 10 if that matters.

TB - why is this happening (the corrupted screens) such that we need to keep clearing cache. It seems to be happening to a lot of folks. And, prior to this happening to me this morning, the system was messing up and logging me out and sometimes would accept the stored PW and sometimes not. I ended up shutting down my PC and restarting my browser and logging out and back and in and things SEEM okay for now.
The POP up now shows on my screen with my large monitor. Still to the left. The question only came up on the one from the FSL, I think. Not from the search for list.

jrsva,

I clicked on a station on the main Pittsburgh price board and updated. I didn't use the map.

Again these prompts work similar to the smart prompts. If you have already answered this question it won't show again for that station. If the question has been answered enough that we are sure of the results the question will not pop up for that station. You will not get a question every time you post a price.

jrsva we have had a few people have problems with this. The best way to fix it is to clear your browser cache sign out close the browser and sign back in. There is something wrong with the cookie or session you are using on your browser right now. It should be fixed after you do this.

How did you report prices, Scout? Currently the only way I can report is via the map, which does not bring up the Thank-You page. The Report Gas Prices section and the FSL is currently disabled.

In an effort to gather as much information on Cash/Credit as fast as we can so that we can make a solution that works for everybody we added this to the price thank you page. We looked at the analytics's and found that most people see the price thank you page. Also who better to answer the question than someone who just posted a price for that station and so we can assume they are familiar with the station.

Also there is a feature in the master station that covers cash/credit now.

Since you are aware of stations in your area that do not offer a different cash credit price just click the no button and you won't be prompted for that station again.

I think the NECESSITY of appearance of this question should be added to profile of each station in Master Station List.
I don’t know any gas bar in London (ON) with different credit/debit prices. Why I need additional clicks for posting prices?

Okay, I had changed my resolution for a specific task and had forgotten to reset it..Tried both the external monitor and the laptop (1366x768 - cut off). Also played around with full screen/not full screen and it disappeared off the edge entirely. A scroll bar showed but it was already all the way to the left.

This needs to be fixed. Common problem of not testing at various end user settings before deploying.

Maybe the FAQ should list the minimum requirements for the webesite ;-)

I'm running my monitor on 1440x990 and the new dialog box flops off to the left side of the screen. This really needs to be fixed.

I did neglect to say "1280x1024 monitor" in my description. I was running the browser in full-screen mode, and there was no horizontal scroll bar when the dialog appeared.

I saw no such popup when I posted prices at about 1900 ET but they appeared when I posted again just moments ago. I posted from a FSL using Firefox 24.0 on Win7-Pro. The dialog boxes were NOT truncated on my system, I suspect because I have a 16x9 HDMI monitor. If I set the browser window to less then full screen, the boxes become partially obscured and are hidden completely if I continue to shrink the window size. Apparently this new feature works properly only with a hi-def monitor. I did not notice whether a horizontal scroll bar appeared when I narrowed the window.

Good catch kwzh. It looks like the answers should be stacked to prevent this from happening.

Just as a point of information, this doesn't occur on the Android app.
