I tried to enter site earlier today, but it didn't respond. This was not a local outage because many real time web site status check sites had the site down for roughly 3 hours. What happened?

We did have an outage on Friday. The data center where our servers live had some sort of hardware failure. We don't know exactly what happened at this point. They have been pretty light on details.

I'm impressed with details you have on the outage. It's awesome to see how passionate our GasBuddy members are.

Just in case somebody cares -- it looks like it was down from 17:37 to 20:09 PDT, and then again from 20:22 to 20:30.

I figured something like that was happening, so I took the freeway to a BD party and back and didn't bother nailing all the stations along the way on the surface streets, which was a LOT quicker. It was a first for me, so their up time percentage is way up there.

Concur, it was not a local outage since I experienced it in the Los Angeles area.

I believe it was GB's network provider datapipe.net that glitched, while GB was inaccessible the trace stopped after hop #10. See the traceroute (made after the outage was restored) below:
