Let's thank the GasBuddy moderators: PD, JT, GM, DC and any I may have missed...

Hi gch42,

Thanks for your positive feedback, it's appreciated.

A few more to mention would be CC, Jess, Ryan (usually handling the GM account), TB, and then there's myself as well.

SUVFan - "Truth be known, my guess is that the moderators would like to see fixes occur far faster than the rest of us because their jobs would be way easier." - you bet, we can entertain, forward and discuss prominent or popular suggestions but all website and mobile app changes are out of our hands.

reb4, you will have a message shortly regarding your requests.

This thread is projected to stray further off topic than it already has.

KWZH and GCH42, thanks, I have sent the mods on 4 different occasions using the private message option... I believe I also did the "report abuse" and messaged them on several occasions. I will contact them via the contact us option as well. have used the other options you have suggested.

I've requested and sent invites to a number of known mods, but they have not accepted invites so I am reluctantly taking the public approach.

So far it's in GB site, so far...

Reb4, the preferred way is through the Contact Us section which can be found at the bottom of any of the GasBuddy pages in the Help category. Another way is to learn the user name of one of the moderators. You can usually find their names from the "help" or "how to use" topics locked at the top of the forum you're using. Under the Chicago Discussion forum, there are four topics which have been locked; three of them appear to have been started by moderators. You can then send them a message directly to their user name.

I can think of three ways. (1) Click on the Inbox icon, and from there, send a message to the GB Moderator. (2) Click on the "Contact Us" link (located under the "Help" submenu at top of page, or the "Help" block of links at bottom of page). (3) For an issue related to a particular message in the forum, click on the "Report Abuse" link for that message.

I'm not sure whether #1 or #2 is more likely to elicit a response, but at least with #1 you have a record of the attempt within the GasBuddy message system. Issues for which #3 is appropriate would typically be reported by multiple members, and generally don't require an individual response.

I would like to talk to the moderators. What's the best way to do so.

I've requested on 4 different occasions and not heard a peep from them.

Anyone know how to contact the site outside of personal messages?

Please let me know...

Gentlefolk:

1) advertising: That's why the site is free.
2) too much advertising: ever heard of AdBlock? Greasemokey? Flashblock? (better still, don't install flash!) There are extensions and addons which block most advertising. I am using Firefox, and have adblock and greasemokey installed. With them, I don't even need the flashblock addon. The only thing displayed in my web window is the gas buddy site information. There is no flash, nor any advertisements visible.
3) alternatively, you could install one of the "malware" or "annoy-ware" programs. Most of these have the ability to be "tuned" to block many of the advertising sites.

Now, using the mobile site, I don't have those things available, so I am subject to the advertising. I personally don't think it's too intrusive, but occasionally my fat finger will activate one. I'm usually quick enough to keep it from loading.

<forums wouldn't be the unreadable piles of garbage that they are now>

The forums are just a distraction to increase advertising. The more garbage, the more page views, the more money the site gets. There is no incentive for the mods to clean up the forums!

<users who provide most of the accurate price and station info for this site>

While that may have once been the case, the accurate price and station info has been polluted by members who care most about getting the most points they can (to enter into the prize drawing), and the most "app" achievements they can (to feed their egos).

gch42,

If the mods operated by the Golden Rule, the forums wouldn't be the unreadable piles of garbage that they are now, nor would the GB Direct members ostensibly operate by a different set of rules than the average (unpaid) users who provide most of the accurate price and station info for this site. I'm just going to leave it at that for now, because anything else I say is likely just going to fall on deaf ears.

Can't believe y'all. What is wrong with showing appreciation even if they are paid? Didn't your mums and dads raise you to have courtesies? Is chivalry dead? What about the Golden Rule? Even the Brits have Boxing Day to show appreciation for those "who get paid" to do things...

Wsamson7121, I did and agree with BO 100%. I would still like to know why the OP feels "a general thread to show appreciation" is necessary.

Ummm-this website is their job. They get paid.

The rest of us reporting prices are volunteers.

Who should thank whom?

CC is also missing from the list.

Thanks to all of the moderators for doing a difficult job.

The glaring deficiencies Furball notes somewhat sarcastically in the preceding post are not the moderators' fault. Truth be known, my guess is that the moderators would like to see fixes occur far faster than the rest of us because their jobs would be way easier.

I'd like to thank the moderators for the declining accuracy of the website, and their ever creative ways of monetizing our volunteer efforts!

For what?

For not enforcing their own rules?

For attacking members suggestions, instead of the problem at hand?

GB: I thank them in person when they provide help on a specific issue. This is just a general thread to show appreciation for their everyday good work...

Is this thank you for something specific or something in general?

Not being flippant but as I make it a habit to thank the moderators when I contact (outside the discussions) it's usually for a specific reason or for specific help they've provided or I hope they'll provide.

Or is this simply a "Thanks, guys..." thread?
If so, "Thanks, guys." Moderator guys in general, that is. Thanks programmers." Thanks Dustin Coupal and Jason Toews in particular. And thanks OPIS for not changing the overall structure and use of the program, website, or mobile app.
