Seems to me that would clean up the forum boards ALOT! Or at least add a search bar to find a topic instead of them being created over and over. As I have probably done just now.

"If an old topic has not been active for two months, management does not want the topic used again (for some reason we can't fathom)"

I can fathom why. The topic could have run it's course and there was nothing left to discuss.

I'm sure other can fathom other reasons.

This suggestion has beed added to the Suggestion Tracking List as a new topic on an existing subjects.

If an old topic has not been active for two months, management does not want the topic used again (for some reason we can't fathom), so being able to find a suitable old topic to use vs. starting a new one would do no good; however it would be helpful to find topics not older than two months.

On the other hand, creating new topics on old subjects is one way to highlight how important the subject is to the membership. For example, there have been more suggestions about cash/credit price reporting than anything else.

Old, locked topics are kept around because people do read them. We only archive the most recent 4 pages of a topic and our forums are text-only, so they don't really take up all that much room on our servers.

Also, most recently used forums are always listed near the top. You have to dig to read or even see old topics in most categories and they can't be "bumped" with new messages. They're not really hurting anything where they are.

To the matter of searching: we do hope to include more/better search options at some point in the future, but currently have nothing in the works for this. Thanks for your patience.
