Who gets awarded the price when many people post prices. I enter my price and many people post after me. Also why has my station stopped entering days in the lead at 29 when I know I have been in the lead more than 30 days?

Few of us dispute the first sentence. As for what you get for being the Top Spotter, it gets me nothing because I personally don't care who's the top spotter for the gas stations I post for, let alone care if it's me or not, just as I don't care about the app awards. I don't have that type of ego. What I do care about in posting is maximizing my price posting and, because it's an opportunity to enter the weekly drawing, generally maximizing my daily points earning (though I almost never enter the drawing any more). If I didn't get the points I would post as many gas prices as I currently do and as frequently as I do, but I might be more selective in reading the news articles and voting in the polls.

However, what it gets some members is the same thing that they get for being on the all-time and 30-day points leaders list, and for being on the consecutive day leaders' list, and for having "speed lines next to their icon. Personal satisfaction (or whatever word you want to use). If people didn't care about "what they get", you wouldn't have as many topics created on the issue nor as many posts as there have been asking about or commenting about the "awards", etc.

scoutmaster:

"So you're not the Top Spotter...Who else know this other than you?"

Unlike the app awards, anyone/everyone using the app can check to see who the Top Spotter is as well as those "spotters" next in line. The Top Spotter ranking is a visible encouragement for runners-up and others to try to move up the Top Spotter "leader board".

As said by 5thWheelJohn (and it's not being critical of his post), "It seems I lost out today because a rival posted prices 3 hours before I did." To answer scoutmaster's questions, "Who else know this other than you? And who cares!", anyone and everyone posting prices via the app can know besides the member him/herself, and (apparently) some members do care.

No feathers were ruffled.

I'm not sure why being "first for the day" really matters. Everyone posting gas prices, regardless of when they post, gets points for the first five gas prices posted. Posting at all times of the day simply helps keep the price visible that much longer (before it's automatically deleted).

As for the "Top Spotter" recognition, there seem to be enough variances that in how the "leader" is determined that it doesn't seem worth the trouble to be concerned about it. I say that having been in the lead on occasion and then suddenly being overtaken significantly, and having been "behind the leader" and then being in the lead (knowing that the leader posted prices most recently, because my price post updated/changed that person's most recent price for the station).

Being top spotter is the least of my efforts on the app.

Thanks Scrapheap. As for Gas Buddy, I didn't mean to ruffle your feathers or hit a sore spot. Its just that I'm traveling in 5th wheel and generally don't sit in one spot long enough to play the game, just for the points. What your saying is I want to post 1 minute past midnight in the hopes of being first for the day.

"It seems I lost out today because a rival posted prices 3 hours before I did. Doesn't seem right. I should still be champ no matter what time I post as long as I don't miss a day ."

First, as has been discussed in other topics on the "top spotter" recognition, there's more to being the "champ" than simply posting every day.

Second, I don't think we're really rivals on Gas Buddy. Granted, some may be leaders or "champs" of various types based on various price posts and/or points earning actions, but that doesn't make us rivals. To me we're simply members helping our fellow members be more knowledgeable shoppers, and we simply earn points or icons or awards along the way. There may be "competition" but there's no "rivalry". Not in my opinion.

A question I have is I had champ at 1 station for like 24 days. It seems I lost out today because a rival posted prices 3 hours before I did. Doesn't seem right. I should still be champ no matter what time I post as long as I don't miss a day . Thank you

Everyone gets credit in the sense of earning points, and presumably also for the scoring on the app game. Whoever was the most recent one to post will be the one credited in the "Thanks" column on the main page.

Assuming they did mean, "Who gets credit for posting a station for the top spotter award?" when there are multiple price posts for the same station, I'd expect that credit would be given to everyone posting it whose GPS position confirms they were near enough to have actually spotted it.

Who gets awarded the price? What does this mean? Are you referring to the Top Spotter on the app?

Anyone who posts prices for those stations will earn points, no matter how many people posted or how often.

Regarding your second question, I assume you are referring to the top spotter on the app. Top spotter is based on a combination of how many days you posted prices for a station and how many grades of fued you posted in the last 30 days. Looks like you missed 1 day.
