hey moderator,
you did nothing to stop the ZZ from being on your server as you described in the locked topic. You just made it difficult. Those that want to respond to a topic that is just two characters will still put it on your servers one at a time.....
Why not eliminated the two character topics and and then free up the space on your database. If you are trying to be creative put more thought into it.
your responses are terrible and they are from your servers.
I worked for a global company that gave 2 sec. responses to most countries from Atlanta. Your responses to my location is 5 sec. that timing was by my DSL provider...... I do not think the two character ZZ is the problem

depending on how you look at things it is wrong.
At least the software problem is fixable.
I wonder if the loop in question was copied and pasted?
Keeping these servers going has to be a nice challenge.

Nope, you've got cause and effect reversed.

That particular change was not put in the way to prevent someone from posting "123" in JFF five times to get their daily points.

There was a loophole allowed users to post "123" 5000 times.

This is the kind of abuse that we're trying to prevent after fixing a bug in the Post Message submit button.

jpurdy1942 - The purpose of JFF is for people to have a place to get their 100 points for 5 posts without distracting from serious discussion. Nothing is preventing you from getting your 100 points in that forum now. It will only take you maybe an extra minute or two to do that. The current policy prevents abuse by people who bog down the server submitting nothing but tripe. You don't seem to accept that such abuse has occurred or offer an alternative solution to that abuse.

Isn't that the result of having "off topic" and "just for fun".
Seems like those were created to keep people coming back and it worked.
just another game. Short fluff messages are all over and most likely the reason for the ignore short messages check box....
Keeping this going is not an easy effort and I am not trying to be trivial but responding to what I read.
have a good day and you may remove this ..

The concern in preventing users for submitting a response numerous times in a row was not to do with with preventing short messages, but with preventing spam.

When you have users posting thousands of short fluff messages for no real reason other than taking up space, we want to prevent that.

using multiple keys a to enter an entry reminds me of the day using DOS and some of the editors in use then.

It used to be that you could post several messages per second by holding down the tab and enter keys. I used this on a JFF thread to make sure I got my daily quota of points. I'm sure that the moderators did not have a problem with people like me, who used this feature of a couple of seconds. However, there are some strange people out there with strange priorities. There was a thread trying to get to 1 million posts as quickly as possible. One of the contributors was a mother who had her children sitting in front of a computer, posting messages as quickly as possible, to fulfill this dubious goal. She wasn't the only strange one doing things like this. It wouldn't surprise me if there were people who would put some weight on the tab and enter keys and walk away, overloading the server in the process and making this site less useful for the rest of us.

For this reason, I have no problem with the change and am willing to take a minute or two to get my full quota of points instead of the seconds it used to take.

yes but the mod was concerned that they were junk on the server. Taking up space....... The mod is not having an easy time of it but making it more difficult should not be part of the solution.

The goal was to prevent spam (in the original sense of "the same thing lots and lots of times"), not to prevent short messages. Short messages are actually an acceptable way to post for points in the JFF category, and forbidding them would make the overall situation worse rather than better.
