If this whole thing is "crap", maybe the solution is to eliminate the consecutive days "feature".

And, having said that, of the total number of Gas Buddy members, and the number of Gas Buddy members who take part in daily or weekly activities, the a not-even significant number of members who take part in "complaining/suggesting/commenting" (my words) discussions doesn't seem to show an overwhelming concern about the value of such a list.

Maybe the consecutive day list can (or should) be replaced with a list of how many gas prices were posted, or how many gas stations were posted for. Or simply eliminate the consecutive days list as well as listing the number of message posts a member has made. They're not really that important in the scheme of things.

While I sympathize with Brindfan, I don't like the idea of restoring consecutive days unless it's a web site issue.

It sounds like mostly your phone and your computer have a problem.

OK Don, let's look at the reasons I had to have my CD's reinstated:

Brindfan October 18,2011
Updated consecutive days to 188

YOUR website hiccuped and defaulted to Eastern Time.

Brindfan May 02,2012
Updated consecutive days to 385

YOUR website would not accept prices from my phone, (BTW it still won't!)

Brindfan September 21,2012
Updated consecutive days to 527

YOUR website hiccuped AGAIN and defaulted to Eastern Time!

Brindfan January 11,2013
Updated consecutive days to 639

All my posts, and prices just disappeared from YOUR site, and NO ONE could tell me why. (Yes I was logged in, I have it set to log in automatically.)

Which brings us to the last problem on YOUR site. I came to the site, and I wasn't logged in, and I couldn't log in because YOUR site said my password and/or user name was incorrect when it wasn't. I couldn't get in, but Scoutmaster could.

THIS was the only time it appears to be a problem on my end.

I wonder how many people have lost their consecutive days because you clocks continue to screw up.

And AFTER your "three times" rule was in effect, how did this happen???

wmsbgolfer /VirginiaBeach: * Restored 6 Times
drew51nm /Albuquerque: * Restored 5 Times
Austin1850 /Austin: Restored 7 Times
topcat57 /Memphis: * Restored 5 Times
NHLiveFree /NewHampshire: Restored 6 Times
RedOlds /Atlanta: * Restored 7 Times
willyneu /Chicago: * Restored 8 Times
wrp41 /Chicago: Restored 5 Times
korvet /Chicago: * Restored 5 Times
mngopher /TwinCities: * Restored 7 Times (actually from the posts I've found, mmgopher has been reinstated at least 15 times!)
fbenda /Chicago: Restored 5 Times
vulcan96 /Ohio: Restored 6 Times

.....and there are more. So don't try to keep conning us with the "only three times" crap.

Brindfan,

Your account has previously already received the maximum allotted consecutive day restorations that we will make to any username,

Brindfan October 18,2011
Updated consecutive days to 188

Brindfan May 02,2012
Updated consecutive days to 385

Brindfan September 21,2012
Updated consecutive days to 527

Brindfan January 11,2013
Updated consecutive days to 639

As you can imagine ontinually updating the consecutive day count defeats the purpose of having this stat in place, on January 11, 2013 you would have been made aware we're no longer making this change to your username.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

-Don

I don't, because it's absolute crap. They have continued to reinstate the people at the top of the consecutive day list, especially if they live in the Twin Cities or Chicago. They even reinstated "deachgo" after he died. That is until someone spilled the beans that it was his 16 or 17 year old daughter that had it reinstated and was posting using his ID. Apparently, you must be 18 to be a member of this site. However, she "must" be 18 now, because she is now again posting using his ID.

A poster named "Rho" had a thread here showing the "liberties" they take in reinstating their buddies and many of the people that are on the top of the list.

We understand that there are sometimes uncontrollable problems that may lead to a missed day. That is why if someone contacts us within a day or two of missing a single day, we will be able to give them the points and update the count as though the day were never missed.

We used to do this quite frequently for members however, some people took advantage of that process, and were constantly being awarded points and days.

While we'd like to be as accommodating as possible, doing this defeated the purpose of the consecutive day counts, so we've limited this to two times.

That is, we will update your consecutive days count no more than 2 times. After that, you're on your own.

I hope this helps.

The official policy is something like "CD count can be restored if you have a good reason, but at most three times".

"Really odd.
Have you signed on to any other of the GB sites besides Colorado?
Have you taken your lap top to your dad's?
Have you tried any other laptop from a friend at your place?
Have you tried hooking your laptop directly to the modem and see if by-passing your router makes a difference?
Have you looked at Trace Route and ping? Are you losing any packets?"

Considering that the log-in problem hasn't reoccurred, and the gas price glitch is very random, plus doing all of that will just take up way too much of my time, it ain't gonna happen.

However, I do speed tests, ping tests, and packet loss tests, at least twice a month. I've never had any problems with packet loss, ping problems, or speed losses. I have never lost my internet connection since I have been with Comcast,(one year now).

One more note: This is the only website that I have problems on. Facebook, Yahoo!, Earthlink, Wikipedia, and other message boards that I post on, never give me any problems.

"This is a really weird problem Brindfan. Does this happen on all of the computers in your apartment?"

Both the log-in and disappearing prices happened on all three computers.

And TxJeans brings up an interesting point:

Scoutmaster, when you logged into my account, which Gasbuddy site did you log into?

I can view the cookies in each individual web browser, and they are fine.

My ISP is Comcast, My Dad's is Comcast Business net. He's in a town 32 miles away from my apartment.

Of the three computers in my apartment, two use Comodo anti-virus, and the other uses McAfee. Two computes have the Windows 7 OS, and the other has Windows Vista.

My Dad's computer's anti-virus is Webroot, and has Windows XP as its OS.

All four computers are HP laptop/notebook computers. My Father's being the oldest, (2005) My sister's two computers are from 2007 and 2011, mine is from 2010.

BTW, I shut off the anti-virus software and firewalls when I was having this problem, it didn't change things. I dumped caches, cookies, and even did a system restore on one computer to see if that would work, it didn't. I've spent way too many hours working on this problem. Other than reformatting a hard drive and reinstalling an OS, I've pretty much tried everything.

The log-in glitch hasn't happened since Scoutmaster went in and changed my password. One of the price posting glitches has. You can read about that in a previous post.

Brindfan,

You don't need a cookie viewer to view your cookies. You can view them in Notepad or Wordpad. Do you know where to find them?

Just a thought:

1. contact your internet provider and find out if you have a direct internet connection or if they are connecting you through a proxy service. Some (less than reputable) providers redirect all their customer's data through a proxy so they can inject ads into the web page views, but this re-writing of the HTML code sometimes backfires when things are not interpreted by the web browser as was intended.

2. are you using any anti-virus or anti-malware product on your computers that protects against 'bad' websites? Many of these work by creating a proxy connection locally on the computer so as to redirect all web browser data through the local proxy where it can be scanned on the fly for malware. Sometimes, rarely, it affects the content or behavior of web pages in strange ways.

If the problem is fairly consistent in behavior on all your computers, look for what they have in common: web browser, security software, anti-malware software, internet provider, common router device, etc. Then think of what is different between all of your computers and your dad's.

One more thing. One of the glitches that have plagued me showed up two days ago. I typed in prices, used the time of day drop down menu to post the time I saw the prices, hit enter, and all the prices disappeared. I got my points, and the previous prices were older than the prices I put in. The only way I could get the prices to stick, was to post them as being seen immediately.

I did all the cookie dumps, checked my cookie settings, the settings were fine and I dumped my cookies more times than I can remember. On all three browsers, (Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Exploder), and I haven't used I.E. on my computers since 2007.

Nothing worked at home until I gave Scoutmaster my log in info. He was the only one who offered to help, and he's been around here so long, so I trusted him and he was able to get in with my log in info. Like I said before, he got in, and I still couldn't. So, on a whim, I asked him to change my password, PM me the new password, and then, for some reason, I was then able to get in. I have since changed my password twice.

Like I said before, I was able to log in at my Dad's without a problem, but I;m not there every day. I don't, and won't own a smartphone, so home and my Father's place are the only places I get online.

BTW, you have yet to address my consecutive days.

ABTW, I had never given my log in info to anyone, until Scoutmaster offered assistance to me. Thanks again, Scoutmaster.

Sorry Brindfan, we do work our way through quite a lot of feedback. The last iOS app network communication error bug has not been helping support requests either. Thanks for your patience.

I'm equally stumped as you are in regards to why your account cannot be logged into on your own computer(s), it's is very odd that you can log in using the same info on someone else' computer, and that your account can be accessed by another user entering the same details by another member in a completely different region.

(PS - I don't think I need to mention this but it is not recommended to share your log in details with other users)

Do you have the same problem when trying to log in using your registered GasBuddy email address as your username, with your password?

Are you minding any case sensitivities?

Do you change your password frequently? If there is a cookie/cache issue, maybe try clearing your browser cache(s) and reload the page entirely before logging in again.

Sometimes holding shift and clicking on the refresh option in your browser can re-sort things out. Try this when logged out.

I hope this helps.

-Don

Get a freeware cookie viewer and see if the cookies that are stored when you log in away from home are the same as when you attempt to log in at home.

OK, here it is:

OK, I have no idea what is going on. It seems when I am home, every month there is some "glitch" with the Gasbuddy site. I've had gas price points disappear, I've posted gas prices, get the points, but the prices don't show up on the site, and several log-in errors. The last one telling me that my username/ or password wasn't correct. This started on 3/26. On 3/27 I was able to log in when I was at my Dad's residence. Then again on 3/29, at my residence, it gave me the user name/password error again. You guys sent me my user name and password, which was the EXACT same user name and password I was using, it still didn't work.

So I then registered a new name, got on the "Talk Back to Us" forum, and posted my dilemma. Scoutmaster then PM'ed me and asked for m user name and password to see if it would work for him. Low and behold it did. Yet it still wouldn't work for me. Mind you, I have three computers at home, each with three different web browsers, and I was still unable to log in. So I asked Scoutmaster to go in to my account and change my password to see if that would do anything, and it worked! So you're guess is as good as mine as to what the problem is. I don't know if there's a problem with my ISP and your website, but that is where I have all of these problems.

Now concerning my consecutive days, I know you are going to tell me that I have "used up" my three graces. That doesn't wash with me well at all considering that many people have had their CD reinstated four, five, six, seven, and up to ten times according to a thread on the "Talk Back to Us" forum.

So after this, I will no longer bother you about all the problems I have at home getting on to Gasbuddy. I will have a chat with my ISP, and tell them what is happening, and that it is just happening at my residence. Maybe they have some idea. There appears to be no fix on your side. I will just have to do all my posting away from home to insure I get my points and CD's.

Considering that Gas Buddy (reportedly) receives several hundred e-mails a day and (I would assume) at least that many messages, it's entirely possible that your "message" simply was missed. It makes sense, if you didn't receive a response to your message after a week (not knowing if you sent it to a specific moderator or not), to simply try again to contact the moderators via the Help link (and then the Website Feedback) at the top of the page.

But that's just a suggestion. After all, I assume even the best of us occasionally miss a message someone sent, not because we don't want to respond to the message. In my opinion.
