I travel the same route every day posting both morning and evening of my same 8 favorite stations, missing only one day for the past 650 days currently on a 285 day streak.
Now my question: I finally, slowly made my way to "top location spotter" on about 4 out of the eight stations I post. On or about the first of April my name was totally dropped from the listing.
Just wondering what happened? Remember, I haven't missed a day for 285 straight days.

Gasbuddy is an "Old Boys" club. They are only loyal to their fellow Twin City buddies and a few others that were here when they first started.

You can see it in how they continually reinstate the top consecutive day leaders. deachgo is a great example of that. The man passed away almost a year ago, yet they reinstated him back to the top of the Consecutive Days list and let his daughter continue to keep his name there until someone blew the whistle on her for not being 18 years old, the minimum age to be a member here. Apparently, she is now 18, or they have "bent" the rules for her again because she is actively posting prices and has a CD streak going again.

Unfortunately, GasBuddy has a poor record of following through on issues. It is so bad that I generally read what they say as spin or a brush off. The old "your suggestion has been forwarded to our development team" is considered by many of us to be a brush off.

With respect to this issue, reporting price for fuel a station does not sell, I stand by my belief that GasBuddy does not care. They could have fixed this problem long ago by linking what could be reported or seen to the MSL, but they have gone from "evaluating the suggestion" to "this suggestion will be implemented" to a moderator saying "if it were up to me, this suggestion would be implemented". I have seen nothing to suggest that TPTB care.

With respect to reporting people for reporting prices for fuel a station does not sell, supposedly people will get banned after 3 reports. I've reported many people more than 3 times but nothing seems to happen.

It is a credibility issue, and GasBuddy has frittered away its credibility.

Jim, I also sometimes wonder how the top spotters are determined. I wonder why I am a top spotter in a few stations I pass by going to work Mon thru Fri but I don't post during the weekend.

For the others, it ain't a game or award I care about. It is something I see when I choose the station. I look at it. I go hmmm. I post the price. Life goes on.

sometimes I wonder why people post silly comments in topics that they have no care about, yet, they get concerned about it. Seems almost hypocritical.

I won't dispute that an actual auto-reply would be better than the silence, but I believe my paraphrase is pretty close anyway. Nope, I'm not reading anybody's mind; I'm just reading what the mods have posted to the forum in the recent past.

WOW those are some AMAZING mind reading capabilities you have there kwzh. For those of us who are not at your level, perhaps a reply stating they are actually looking into the issue would be better, lest someone get the impression that they are ignoring us and just don't care.

Given that SUVFan was complaining about people posting diesel prices for places that don't sell diesel, I think there is a simpler explanation than yours. I don't think GasBuddy cares. The only time you see these prices is on the website, and TPTB don't seem to care to upgrade the website. The apps have been tied to the MSL for a long time, so people can't search for diesel on the app and be led astray. The only time an app user sees diesel prices at a station that does not carry diesel is when he brings up the station to report prices for other grades of gasoline. Given the diesel users are in the minority, and diesel users using the website are even a smaller minority, I think TPTB have decided to simply not spend any resources on this issue and instead concentrate on those things that enhance revenue.

No -- consider the blank response to be an abbreviation of an auto-reply that says "Thank you for reporting this; it will be investigated, along with the other thousands of similar reports that our staff of ~8 is dealing with at the moment."

>Can anyone explain the obsession some folks have on these "awards"??<

If you build it they will come.

Any fault or deficiency lies with the creator of the awards, not with the folks who seek them.

I found a diesel price Sunday night for a station that never had diesel and for which the MSL doesn't show it as being available. Yet there the price was, no doubt submitted by a mobile user. They might not have meant to submit it for that station -- the stations on 2 of the four corners have diesel. I reported the situation using the link at the bottom of every screen. No response. The site must not care.

My point is there are much more exciting games elsewhere...getting these awards is like watching water boil for basic functions you should be doing as a member anyhow, most of the awards I understand can't be seen by others. If I am going to play a game, I want something where I sit and play the game actively, not worry about entering stuff to GB to meet these awards.

I think it's a game to them. Try to get to the next level! Much like video games.

Can anyone explain the obsession some folks have on these "awards"?? - there are so many more important things in life...I just don't get it. Yet day after day, someone is here worrying about losing their CD streak because they are going on vacation or traveling abroad for business, or complaining about the fact that they have to post on their days off to keep their points in some award or another...

As for games, I can find more stimulating games elsewhere, and am more interested in capturing the one station I pass each day I go to work, and the others when I have errands that take me off the expressway on my commute...for the benefit of all the membership of gasbuddy.
