I was on vacation last week and hardly left the house, so I didn't do a lot of visiting to GB. I didn't have enough points earned to redeem for a ticket, but I happened to go into the point & prizes section and saw that I had what I think was labelled as a "free ticket" available. I don't see any mention of what this is or how it happened and was wondering what the exact criteria are. I like it of course, but it surprised me (in a good way.)

That is totally correct SUVFan. Only has to be less then 1,000. I have done it many times.

It sounds like it's possible to get an extra ticket every week?

You dump points on Sunday and then claim the freebie BEFORE you post anything on Monday. Then you earn your Monday points AFTER claiming the freebie, and every day through Sunday, and dump points again?

I stand corrected, less than 1000 points. You learn something every day!

You do not need a Zero points balance just less than 1,000. Thanks
Don!

Alright, so here's how this ticket freebie reportedly works:

It looks as though this is set up that if you're a registered user, and you do not have any points in your available point balance during a contest period (this could be at any point during the beginning, middle, or end of the contest period), members can enter 1 free ticket into the draw.

Members can only enter this one free ticket once per week. If at any point you earn enough points to exchange for one ticket then this free ticket immediately becomes unavailable.

That's why some users are saying if they dump all their points on Sunday evening before the contest period wraps up, they can get a free ticket the following Monday when they do not have an available point balance.

It does sound suspicious but this is intentional.

With a zero point balance, you can get this ticket at any point during that contest period once per week, as long as you don't earn enough points to exchange for one ticket.

I hope this info helps.

I'm not positive to what other comments have been made about Mondays and being offered a free ticket without earning points yet (have yet to experience this personally) but - what I'm thinking of is if you're not logged into your account (logged out of your account) and you're viewing the Get Tickets page, the free ticket offered is intentional, and is given to users upon account registration. This is an incentive for unregistered users to join the site and report prices to further their entries into the draw.

Outside of this I'm not sure what the other mentioned references are toward(GB site staff are void from contest...getting tickets on a Monday isn't a regular practice) but I've made an inquiry as to how users can bet getting tickets without having a point balance.

If that's what has been happening, no, this was not intentional and will be corrected shortly.

Yes, both of those suggestions go to the same place. I'm definitely aware of it and have read it multiple times, but there's nothing in there about the free ticket we've been talking about. If it is intentional, it should be listed. If it's not intentional (ie a bug) it should be fixed. That was my point.

I'd recommend also viewing the How It Works for info on how users earn points using GasBuddy (IIRC these point to the same page).

D-Fan, info on how to earn points is well publicized under the "How to Earn Points" tab in the "Points & Prizes" heading in the blue menu bar above.

OK, I should have said that there have been conflicting reports on whether it's intentional.

Now I'm more confused than I was before, but at least I know I'm not alone. So thank you. :)

My 2 cents (for what it's worth) would to either eliminate it completely or publicize it in the info on how to earn points. I don't see any other option that's fair.

It seems to be a bug that, despite being previously reported and confirmed to not be intentional, is still around after over a year.

Actually, I know that come Monday 1st thing BEFORE you start getting points for the new week....AND you have less then 1,000 points accumulated to start with....the "free ticket" drop down thing is there. The key is you can not have 1,000 or more points. On the last day, Sunday you buy enough tickets to get you below 1,000....the "free ticket" will be there Monday.

Hi DiannaFan,

When visiting page while not logged into your account, you'll see "1 Free Ticket" under the 'Number of Tickets' drop down menu.

This is the free ticket given to new users when they register an account on the Purchase Prize Give-Away Tickets page.

You should not be seeing this when logged in to you username and browsing this page.

I hope this helps.
