If you feel like exploring the envelope, you could try several different addresses and see if you can identify some attribute that is unique to the one(s) that fail -- but that could be a lot of work if you have to obtain valid addresses for each test. It probably is best if someone on GasBuddy staff takes a look at this. Anyway, if you still need them to change your home site, you can ask them to change your email at the same time (and you should explain that you haven't been able to do it yourself).

If you feel like humoring the armchair debuggers in the audience, take a series of screen shots on the page where you're trying to change your address: one just before you submit it, one just after where it's supposedly acknowledged, and then another that demonstrates that the old address is still in effect. (You can smudge parts of the address for privacy.) Then post the screen shots to imagebin and post the URLs here.

FWIW, I had no problems changing my address to a gmail account and changing it back just now. I was using IE8 on a Windows 7 platform.

KWZH as stated previously I opened a separate email address-same computer, same browser and it worked.Yet trying to change to my preferred gmail address still won't work.Make your own conclusions.

Be that as it may it may be helpful to have the FAQ updated on how to change user preferences.

Oh, and I should have included "try a different browser", as well.

I don't know what you mean by "this is a website issue." You're convinced that none of what I suggested could possibly work? If other people *are* able to change their email addresses, then that's evidence (but not proof) of a problem at your end. If you test the things I suggested, and nothing helps, then that's evidence (but not proof) of a server-side problem.

I ended up setting up a separate email account and so far so good although the one I originally tried to use was a standard nothing special gmail account.
Gas Buddy I did not know if the forum did notify new replies as some do which would be sent to a deleted email just as the member preferences would be.I did bookmark this thread to follow up though instead of trying to find it through the forum, hope that answers your question.
Thanks for the replies.

I've had no poblem changing my e-mail address, and yes, "email can be changed especially if the email account no longer exists." Your e-mail address, on file with Gas Buddy management, whether the e-mail address is accurate or not, has nothing to do with accessing this website, posting gas prices, or using other features of the website.

Not knowing what you've done to try to update your e-mail address, and assuming you've correctly entered a valid e-mail address, you can try to "buy" tickets, and use the "Get Tickets for Prize Give-Away" page to update your e-mail address. If the "update" can't be done with purchasing "zero" tickets, simply use the points you've earned from your gas price posting to "buy" one ticket and update your e-mail address at that time.

Alternatively, contact the moderators directly and request that your e-mail address be changed to your new e-mail address.

Just wondering, though, you wrote:
"...hopefully I can find this post again because my email..."

Why would you not be able to "find this post again" because of a change of e-mail address? Your e-mail address and participation in the website have nothing to do with each other. The e-mail is only used for the moderators to contact you, for example to notify you that you've won the weekly drawing. Accessing this website, and this post, have nothing to do with your e-mail address, only with your web browsers ability to access the internet. Or are you saying something else?

As for "change of home site", "GB" has not made it impossible to change your home site. Gas Buddy management has deliberately made it a requirement that, for administrative reasons, in order to change your home site you must contact the moderators with your request, and they'll change it. This wasn't done to "make it impossible", but rather to prevent abuse.

All I can recommend is the standard stuff. Try it again to see if it was just a fluke. Try it on a different computer. Try it on a different GasBuddy site on the same computer. Try clearing your cache, clearing your cookies.

Does the new email address include any unusual characters?

To change your email, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Edit Member Info under Community. You have to ask the moderators to change home sites.
