If you would like your username changed, let us know using the Website Feedback Tool. Just let us know you want it changed and provide us with a list of your top choices for a name change. Some may already be in use. We'll attempt them in your specified order until one goes through successfully.

I'd prefer to have the nickname changed because you can only have one per email address.

I'm with Gas_Buddy. This 1/120 poster isn't coming back.

I agree with bytebug. As long as the misspelled name is abandoned, the member is in keeping with the spirit of the rules.

I would guess they created the new name by now, as that's much faster than waiting on the mods, and we are an impatient society.
Does anybody have thoughts on what the typo/misspelling was? Most variations of that screen name would seem to be unique and unlikely to have been created by someone else after this thread was started, unless mischief was involved?

I don't disagree that members should not have two screen names (and note that my original post was explaining how the member should contact the moderators); however, in this case, the reason I said that I agree with bytebug's suggestion was that the member had (wrongly) created screen name that was unique, and not one that many others (even with the growth of Gas Buddy membership) would likely choose, and because it was immediate (i.e., the member had nothing of value that they were trying to keep and deceive others with).
Yes, the member should contact the moderators.
What I'm waiting to see is how soon the member thanks everyone for their help an getting a new screen name. But I'm not holding my breath.

"I see no repercussions over the members who start a new identity every six months."
This really doesn't matter. If you get caught, you could get banned. If you don't get caught you are still in violation of the site rules. Sorta like speeding.

I see no repercussions over the members who start a new identity every six months.

Bugging the moderators is the correct way to accomplish this.

The other thing, it is against the rules to have 2 identities, and if one just started a new one the moderators would have to be contacted to remove the first one, so they might as well be contacted to change the name to start with. I can't believe anybody would suggest the first thing a new member should do is break the rules.

Personally, I think that "bug the mods" is a better answer than "abandon the old one and make a new one". Why pollute the namespace, and artificially increase the nominal membership numbers even further? Anyway, I'm sure the mods get many more requests for changing locations than they do for changing member IDs, and they seem plenty content to do *that*.

bytebug:
Your response is too obvious although one I would have made if I paid attention to how many points the member had (noting that creating this thread was his/her only points activity other than joining).
You're correct; the simple way to change the screen name would be to simply create a new screen name/Gas Buddy identity. The only loss would be the points from starting this topic.
On that note, this topic should be closed.

Come on folks… really? Bug a moderator to do something that would take the OP less than a minute to fix?
Just abandon the original misspelled ID, and create a new ID with the correct spelling!
I can't believe that anyone would suggest anything else!

there is no "EDIT" button to change your profile/nickname (just as there generally aren't on other websites). In order to change your screen name", click on the "Help" link at the top right of each page, which will open a page that reads: Website Feedback.
Click on the: Leave Feedback link and complete the information requested on the page. Let the moderators know your current screen name, and let them know what screen name you would like. I suggest you give them several screen names in case your first choice is already taken.
As TxJeans suggested, you can also contact the moderators using the link at the bottom of the page.
If this answers your questions, and provides all you need, you may want to suggest the moderators close this topic from further discussion.
