Wow I never knew about the reinstatement. I lost around 2500 but just restarted and realized it didn't really matter. Can't sweat the small stuff.

My consecutive days went form around 60 two days ago, to 0 yesterday, to 22 today.
The systems has done this to me 3 times in the past, and I notice the system has difficulties if you make entries around 12:00am local time.
Admin told be "you missed making an entry on a certain date, which I didn't, but it is hardly worth the bother. I no longer worry about consecutive days and ignore them. Just one bad spot in an otherwise good site.

Yes we lost a day back then. For those with a lot of consecutive days it doesn't matter. Somewhere in the past we all had 2 extra days added to us. I've seen a few people temporarily lose their streak for things like power outages. If you petition GasBuddy they might reinstate you. At that time you would lose the 2 extra days. If you didn't have a whole lotta consecutive days then you lost a day.
Scrapheap - from what I've seen the consecutive days is updated at 6AM Central time.

That 1 is yesterday's activity. The consecutive days is updated shortly after 6 a.m. Eastern Time and reflects the total consecutive days as of midnight in Hawaii the previous day.

I posted prices via the app for iPhone yesterday February 4th and I see that my consecutive days are back at 1 today. Why? Do the days not count if you use the app?

I think Turtle said earlier in this thread that he did contact a moderator directly, and that he received multiple responses, some of which he bothered to share with members here. I don't care much about losing a day but admit to being curious as to why it happened once this thread was underway. Others obvioulsy were as well.
I sure don't consider the act of pointing out a problem and trying to find out if and how the server crash impacted others (while waiting for the typically slower moderator response) out of line with the concept of TBTU.

I don't know why anyone would want to archive their counter, let alone know how to archive my own. The only reason I could think of to want to would be in the expectation that the consecutive days list hasn't increased and so you have "proof" to provide the Gas Buddy moderators. But is the consecutive day list really that important to warrant the number of topics started, let alone the number of posts responding to those topics?
I realize that one member noted (in another thread) that her consecutive days number reverted to zero (before it was reinstated) and she had apparent concern about her standing versus her "classmates", all of who still had some 190 or so days. And I realize that there are a number of members that haven't missed a days in a half dozen or more years, some since near the inception of Gas Buddy.
But if they eliminated the consecutive days list, and the 90-day wings or number of messages posted for that matter, very few members would object. I can't believe the number of topics that have been started because "My consecutive days amount has disappeared...", "I didn't get credit for a day...", and the inevitable "I thought I posted but I must have forgot so please give me a "make-up" day and give me credit for the gas prices I didn't post and messages I forgot to post."
Better, if anything needs or should be listed (but it's something for a different topic) would be the number of gas prices posted. After all, isn't the primary function of this website? I would ask "Does anyone really care that much about how many consecutive days they've posted" but I already know the answer. And, like kwzh, I don't think it's worth worrying about, let alone worth starting topics about it. Better, if it's really that important, would be to contact the moderators directly and leave "Talk Back To Us" to more substantive issues that actually might draw the interest and comments of fellow members.
In my opinion.

rho, I don't follow your explanation.
kwzh, I agree. Remember when we tried to get them to drop the consecutive days? They mean nothing, especially with the reinstatement. They'd have more time to pursue other issues if they didn't have to fool with "conseutive" days.

I lost all of mine; I'm not sure how many that is, since I haven't been archiving my counter. I decided not to file a report, since I'm not really a fan of the whole consecutive days counting in the first place, and I believe that it's bad to get too attached to something that can vanish so easily.

Those that lost 2 days, may have depended on when the server problem started and fixed vs when you posted on both of those two days in question.

I'm still off by 1 day. On Jan 14, I was at 326. On Jan 15, 16 and 17 I was at 327. On the 17th I posted before 6:00 AM eastern time so after 6:00 it did change to 328. Today, Jan 18, it is at 329. RichWLIN, I have since received a couple more IM's from Ryan, and yes I have now lost 2 days, but he tells me no more and Friday I will finally increase from 3600 to 3601. We shall see.

TUrtLE1625 asked: "Anyone else find this?"
Might this not have something to do with the explanation you provided below? Seems they may have restarted your counter and subsequently subtracted the 2 day advance from 2008?
Mine was stuck on 500 for two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) as a result of the Wednesday morning server glitch but it has now advanced to 501 as of this morning and is again apparently functioning correctly. My lost day will likely just stay lost. I'm not sure that it really matters much.

Okay folks, here is the IM I received from GB mod Don yesterday about Consecutive Days.
"When updating Consecutive Days, there may be some members with lots of days whose count could actually decrease. This is due to a glitch that happened back in 2008, where member consecutive days suddenly increased by 2 more days than what they actually were. The problem was fixed, but we left the extra 2 days tacked on to user's counts, rather than take them away and receive large volumes of backlash.
The problem now is, if we update CDs for users from this period, all it does is recount from the last missed day, which in return corrects that old "problem".
So, when it comes to make a correction for an older, more established username such as your own, re-running the counter will actually take away 1 more day, seemingly not correcting the count, and "updating" it to the way it was originally tabulated.
I hope this explanation helps."

Is the day you are missing today? If so, it isn't counted until tomorrow. And if your speed lines are still there, you haven't lost a day.

I am missing a day too and this should not count against reinstatement since it is no fault of us. If the site is going to have it, then it should be correct.

The consecutive days will not change. If you want to know why contact the mods.
Remember when consecutive days was an added feature? We tried to get them to discontinue it, but it didn't happen.
Also, because of reinstatement, at one time multiple times, now limited to 3 times, it really means nothing.
Enough said.

I used to care about this trivia. Now I only look at the lists when lgppa writes on my whiteboard a congrats about hitting some milestone or when someone is whining about one of these lists.
I'm wondering how long it will take you to figure out that none of these lists are particularly important.

Mine is also the same as yesterday. Gas Buddy changes the numbers in the morning. Since it was down, it didn't happen. It will likely self correct tomorrow morning.

Thanks to the rest of you who also noticed some stats not updated.
Gas_Buddy, I keep a small "GB" calendar where I record my Consecutive days, how many days at my current rank and GB birthdays of those I message with.
I agree that the incorrect numbers are probably due to the 3 hour down time early this morning.

"This is why I keep a separate spreadsheet of the half-year points, total points, and consecutive days, as well as screen shots, to prove what is correct."
Seriously? You keep a spreadsheet and and take screen shots of Gas Buddy just to prove what's correct? Screen shots of everything you do on Gas Buddy and all your statuses/points-etc standings? You do this continually?
Are there that many things you need to prove that Gas Buddy won't acknowledge or accept your word for? Or am I not understanding the reasoning for the spreadsheet, screen shots, etc.

Seems to be connected to the website downtime this morning. Yesterday, another member wrote me congratulating me for 500 consecutive days. Today it is still 500 days.
I wouldn't worry about it.
