I just clicked on Saltbat084 and it comes up showing that he/she/it is no longer a member. Does that mean he was banned? He is still showing at the very top of the half-year leader list. No idea how he got over 20K in points so quick.

I have also been noticing for years now that someone from Charlotte keeps using variant names like 48Lowescar or Homedepot20car or Pennzoil22car and starting an account every January or July 1st. Most of these names have already been banned some still earn points. Why are these practices not stopped.

Yup banned members earn points. They are relegated to their own universe which we don't see. I think the reason they show up on the point leader boards is to give them the impression they are still considered good members.
"I was wondering the same thing. More likely, the administrators of this forum have planted that name there as an administrative tool or a fraud verification tool, since you can't earn points as a banned member, but he is there everyday."
Since you can earn points as a banned member, you theory of a plant is way off. When a used profile reads "We're Sorry. We can not find member profile "Salbato84". that user is banned.

I agree bytebug. I don't get it. GasBuddy went through the trouble of creating a parallel universe where banned members can see other banned members and live in a ruse that they are participating in the site. It seems like they could have 2 lists. One that banned members can see to continue the ruse and one that we see that doesn't include these reprobates.

>> Banned members can earn points.
I think we'd all prefer that they not appear on any of the leaders lists.

I am not lying nor am I trying to cause trouble. Your repeated doubts about what people tell you and casting dispersions upon them are among the traits exhibit your easily spotted on line persona and signature of sorts. This is the behavior I referred to in another thread.
Banned members can earn points. They can not win the drawing.

Curious if the member at the top of the half-year list, Salbato84, is a banned member.

The current top of the half-year list is 14,175 points. Had you waited to vote in last week's poll until the New Year, and had accumulated the maximum number of points since, you'd have 12,975 points. The difference is 1,200 points, which as mentioned, is the number of refer-a-friend points possible.
EdW at this point has 13,215 points, so is ahead of the "normal" max by 240 points, which I would guess to mean three tell-a-friend bonuses.

Ed:
Similar to what Scrapheap said, members that joined the first of the year would have 100 points for joining and could have 1,200 points for member referrals that you wouldn't have this year. That's 1,300 points they would/could be ahead of you in just the past two weeks (assuming you didn't miss any points opportunities).
Second, you have 29,765 points as of a minute ago. With only a few exceptions for apparently new members who've been able to achieve the above "extra" points that you likely already earned during your 11 years of membership, you're primarily 960 points behind most members who've posted for maximum points during the past 30 days (they have 30,725 whereas you have 29,765). Considering that that difference is one day's worth of points, either you may have missed maximizing your daily points total (but continued your consecutive day posting streak) or you haven't yet maximized today's points whereas they already have).
That said, as a long-time member such as your, I personally I wouldn't be overly concerned about where I was on a 30-day list as much as I would be concerned with maximizing my daily price posting in order to help my fellow members. After all, if you're going to be concerned about the 30-day points totals, think of this - and I'm not being cynical - you've earned in 11 years approximately what many members have earned in a year. It's just a matter of perspective and, to me, the 30 day list isn't that important. Just my opinion.

There are some people who start a new account at the beginning of the half year just to be on top of this list. They can earn an additional 1200 points for tell a friend, get 100 points just for signing up and can earn another 100-200 points depending on when people decide to answer the weekly poll.

I finished one semester at the top of the list without full potential points, but that doesn't happen anymore. I've seen some claim that there are some that start a new membership to get the additional points for tell-a-friend, but that would only be 1200 points.
