Actually you can gain 5 more minutes IF within the first 5 you start an edit. Having done that, you now have 5 more to finish the edit, for a total of about 10 max.

Sooner or later we are going to have to learn this problem so that we can quickly parrot the answer when needed: if the server clocks do not have the correct time, a recently-posted msg may not have an edit window. Check the times, and if they are off, PM a mod to reset the clock. (Hopefully, no winding is involved. :-) )

Don't forget the obvious. Even if the "edit" button is missing, you can always start a new post that begins with "Correction to earlier post below...", "Please disregard previous post from [whatever date/time], corrected post follows...", or something similar.
Then simply cut and paste your old post, edit it, and then post the new message.
It might not be the most convenient way to make an immediate edit, but it's a simply way.
