Why is there a need for members removing gas & diesel prices? I have been plagued for almost 2 weeks now from some member for reasons unknown by me that continually removes every gas & diesel price that I update within an hour of any of my updates. I can repost those prices up to 12 times in one day and they are always removed. Any member at any time has the option to update a price, but it makes no sense why there are members only removing them! So why does gasbuddy have an option for any member to be removing prices?

What's your opinion?

Thanks!

PD, thanks, everything seems to be working fine now. I guess that I overlooked syncing of my favorite list. Thanks for fixing it for me.

Also thanks to everyone here that commented back to my post. I had a problem and didn't know what it was, so all of you were a great help!

Have a good day!

mtman, your stations aren't being removed, but you are posted duplicates because you haven't synced your stations to the Master Station List. In essence, you are reporting duplicates. I'll go ahead and try to sync your favorites.

It sounds more like a technical (computer-ish) problem than someone being mischievous.

The reason I say that is because you're saying you post prices up to 12 times a day and that within the hour the prices are removed.

For that to happen consistently means the other member would have to be reviewing the website virtually continuously to ensure that he/she "captured" every one of your price postings. To ensure that happens would mean, in a simply way, he/she would have to make a favorite of every station you're know to post and then, more or less hourly, delete them by mass updating their favorites list (which would be a copy of yours). To compound the mischievous effort, they would have to also continually monitor stations than your regular stations (which may or may not be on the daily high/low price listing, and readily visible to other members that you posted the price) because you may post prices for stations other than those on your (small?) favorites list.

The prices that I update are correct and are posted to the correct stations and they are all open for business. Someone is removing every price that I post within an hour of me posting and not updating any prices at all. I have been posting gas & diesel prices on a regular basis since 2004, so I know how the system works. Yes I'm sure that someone is deliberately deleting all my prices.

Maybe the trick is to post several prices for isolated stations that you haven'otherwise posted for, and see if that/those stations are also deleted. If so, either you've got a very dedicated lurker with time on his hands and not much else to do except irk you, or it's a systemic problem.

However, I do agree with Scrapheap that there's value in having members have the ability to remove obviously wrong prices. Some members make honest posting mistakes and other members, with the ability to remove obviously wrong prices (even if they don't know the correct price to provide a price update), help keep the system more accurate.

From what you have posted, it sounds like someone is following behind you and deleting your posts. The next time this happens, notify the mods immediately and tell them what is going on. They should be able to track it.

I have brought it to the attention of the moderators, but don't know if they are doing anything about it.

There has long been the capability to remove prices, generally for those that are clearly wrong, or posted to the wrong site.

Without more details, it's hard to say why yours are being removed, unless they are on the wrong site, or incorrect prices.

Assuming yours are on the correct site and correct prices and not being updated, but only removed, sounds like something for the moderators to investigate.

It is perfectly fine to delete prices for stations that are closed or if prices are posted for grades of fuel a station does not carry.

Are you sure a member is deleting your prices? Are you aware that the system will delete prices automatically if it thinks they are to high or low?
