I keep trying to post $3.49/gal for Regular at a local Mobil station right down the road from me but the site keeps telling me that the price is too low and it NEVER shows up on the low price list...

Something is screwy and shady with this website

The problem here was that smaller areas with 1-2 stations are often not included in the site drop down menus to prevent cluttering the lists, without an area categorization some stations might not show up where they're intended unless you perform an All Areas/All Stations search (even at that, there's a chance it won't display depending on how high the prices are, or when it was last updated).

There are only two stations in Mansfield, CT (both Mobil stations). This appear to have been corrected by TB, at this point in time you can see the stations when viewing the CT site and selecting Mansfield from the area search options.

banfieldst:

Just a suggestion.

You wrote: "...I do not now nor do I plan to in the future sit here updating gas prices daily as I have better things to do. Although when I notice a lower price I tend to attempt to list it."

No one is asking or even suggesting that you sit there updating gas prices daily. However, if you do notice a lower price - or a higher price for that matter - by posting the price, you extend the amount of time prices for that gas station are visible. And even if the price you see is the same as already posted, by reposting the price, updating it in essence, you're extending the length of time a price is posted for that station, providing increased knowledge for your fellow Connecticut Gas Buddy members.

I'm in no way telling you to live on the computer, on your mobile app, or on this website. Just that any price you post, whether it's a different price than already posted or a reposting of the same price, you're helping other members be more knowledgeable shoppers.

And, maybe your fellow members will post that extra price once in a while that might help you be a more knowledgeable shopper.

But it's just a suggestion.

"The problem is that the area Mansfield was not listed as an area on Connecticutgasprices.com."

Huh, never realized that was an issue.

Thanks TB.

Hi guys
I have fixed this up. The problem is that the area Mansfield was not listed as an area on Connecticutgasprices.com. Only areas that are listed can show in the high low prices. I'm pretty sure that there are only 2 stations in that area so it might not have been big enough to make our list. I have added it though and if you check the site now you can see that the 3.51 price is on the lowest list.

Yes...it appears on the master-list but not the front page list. All I was saying is that I do not now nor do I plan to in the future sit here updating gas prices daily as I have better things to do. Although when I notice a lower price I tend to attempt to list it.
That closed Gibbs station has been closed for about a year or more now so idk why it would be conflicting. The website DOES though allow me to update a price that is already listed on the top cheapest or top most expensive lists.
If a price someone who isnt as active on the site were to post seemed in error...that should be for members to confirm and fix and not let some algorithm try to decide.

Hmm, interesting the Mansfield Mobil (3.53 12 minutes ago) shows up when I do a search by City and also after clicking Show Search Options and selecting the State radio button.

"Occasionally ill try to add a price that I see is lower than what is posted. To me its redundant for me to just reaffirm prices that are already listed."

Actually it's not redundant but needed, as the prices are only kept on the system for 24 hours. The newer the price the more reliable.

Not sure that prices posted by someone over 10,000 points are subject to the "newbie rules" though bytebug.

Mansfield Mobil is listed in the MSL, good work banfieldst.

Maybe the closed Gibbs listing is conflicting with the Mobil and making that station disappear, not that I've heard of that being an issue before.

Which is likely the reason why your submission of unexpectedly low prices has been rejected. Your participation to this point has only been to post a single price every 3-4 days.

And whats the point in contributing to a site that doesn't even take in to account my contributions?
I have better things to do then post on this forum all day...Its just this one issue that I felt I needed to take here.
I come here for the price lists and the news that's it. Occasionally ill try to add a price that I see is lower than what is posted. To me its redundant for me to just reaffirm prices that are already listed.

>> I have been a member for coming up on a Year and Half now so I am not new the site.

Unfortunately, you have barely made a contribution during that year and a half, earning fewer points than someone could earn in thirty days. As such, your posting a price that is significantly lower than the local average is viewed by the system with skepticism.

>> Prices change daily and sometimes more then once a day and the site should have
>> the ability to properly reflect that.

The site has no problem with that. Contribute more regularly to the site, and you'll find that it isn't an issue.

The Average price in CT is according to this site 3.83...I live on the outskirts of Mansfield and town line to Willimantic where we seem to often have the cheapest gas in the state.
Not sure what else you want...the prices are NOT disconnected cash prices.

The Mobil station of which I am attempting to report I have added the information for. It is at 9 Stafford Road Mansfield Center, CT 06250

This station was recently listed as a Gibbs station that closed up shop about a year ago and within the past month has re-opened as the Mobil at the same address.

Now the price is at $3.51/Gal Regular, and would once again remain the cheapest price on the site. I have been a member for coming up on a Year and Half now so I am not new the site. My local newspaper posts the lowest prices in town daily via GasBuddy and I feel that this station isnt being allowed to be fairly represented. Prices change daily and sometimes more then once a day and the site should have the ability to properly reflect that.

No, you should wake up and realize that it is a holiday weekend and you're likely not going to get a response until people get back to work.

You also could have posted more details of the prices and the station, and a member that has more seniority could post an update for you.

I'd also ask, since nobody else has, that the prices you want to post are the undiscounted cash prices for gas at that station.

banfieldst, this is the right place to post it, and no, you should not assume that the mods don't care -- just that they always have a lot of things to deal with. In the meantime, continue collecting any data you can about this station or any other that exhibits similar behavior.

I don't know what the algorithm actually uses, but I would capture (a) station info, of course (b) phone app or computer (c) which page you're using to enter prices (d) result of attempt (rejected with error, rejected silently, accepted after warning, accepted silently, other), (e) which grade of fuel, (f) price you entered, (g) previous price at that station, if any, (h) average price in your area (state) at the time. Probably more that I'm not thinking of.

im not talking about such an enormous price difference....im talking about a 3 cent difference...and now when I try to post the updated price that is the same as my local stop & shop...the one listed top of the cheap price list...it claims that it looks too low and it doesnt show up on the list at all...

What if there is a gas station with an error on the pumps. $0.339 instead of $3.399? The website will definitely not accept it.

Now the price at that station is at 3.51 and when I went to try to update it(via the website not mobile) it says the price seems too low and it doesnt show it on the page.

I post from the website not the mobile app. Also when I submit a re-affirmation of an already listed price it accepts it and shows me as the last person to list the price on the main page.

I do not think that low price warning has anything to do with the lowest price list. I believe it shows only if the price being entered for a station is significantly (as defined by Gasbuddy) lower than that station's current price. Meaning just because the is a low price warning does not mean it with be on the low price list.

Have you tried exiting the program, restarting your computer and relogging onto Gas Buddy and then trying to post the prices?

That said, how are you trying to post prices (so that the moderators have some sense of what the problem could be)? Are you trying to post from a Gas Buddy mobile app or from the website? And, perhaps more important, are other gas prices you're trying to post being accepted?

For every price posted the GB software compares it to other prices nearby. If it is unusually low or high, sometimes a warning is given and other times the posting is rejected. I have not been able to figure out why it is sometimes a warning and other times a rejection. A Moderator may respond in this forum but it is best to contact them directly via PM and explain the situation. They fixed the problem for two stations in my area that would not accept higher prices.
