Last week (and for several months before) I was able to order prize draw tickets from the mobile web site. This week (starting November 5) it hasn't worked at all, forcing me to switch to the full site to place my ticket orders.

I order 1 ticket each time I reach 1,000 points. On the mobile site this week I'm still able to specify that I want 1 ticket, and the first time the Verify Your Contact Information page appears it correctly shows that I have entered 1 ticket for the prize draw. However, after I scroll down through my contact info and click the button to get my ticket, it no longer confirms my order. Instead, the Verify Your Contact Information page appears a second time, but this time it says I have entered 0 tickets, which is incorrect, so at that point I have to exit from the mobile site and order from the full site instead.

Yes, it's back to normal now. I tested it by first ordering 1 ticket from the old mobile site using a desktop browser, and when that worked properly I used the Blackberry to order 3 tickets, and that worked too. Thank you, Don!

This issue has reportedly been fixed, it has been tested and works correctly on my end, miser73 can you confirm when you get a chance?

Hi miser73,

I've submitted this information in a bug report toward the developers for further review, thanks for your patience.

Don, thanks for the reply. I'm definitely using the old mobile site for WAP browsers because that's the kind of device I'm using. Although there's no ticket request option on the home page, it offers me tickets whenever I submit a gas price and have enough points (1,000 or more). I explained that in detail down-thread, in my post dated Nov 13, 2012 1:34:28 PM.

The page that doesn't work properly is http://m.garygasprices.com/Prize.aspx

I just now tried it on my desktop browser, and it behaves the same way as I described earlier, so the problem isn't on my old BlackBerry. Something changed at GB that affects the way the Prize.aspx page works.

Your log of my activity matches my expectations perfectly. Each day last week I hopped over to the full site to order my tickets. This week I've been saving up my points in the hope that a fix was on the way, so that I'll be able to test it. By saving up points I've found that it doesn't matter how many tickets I request, it still reverts to 0 and redisplays the Verify Your Contact Info screen instead of fulfilling the order.

@ miser73,

Upon review, I've recollected there is a get ticket option in the old mobile site that (as previously described) only appears users when have enough points to get tickets (this shows up above the price list and reads "You have enough points to enter the prize draw! Enter now!").

My apologies for the oversight, it's been some time since we've handled an issue with the older version of the mobile site.

On Nov 10 you said you're running OS 4.5? There might be an issue with the web browser in the device not being webkit enabled, the Get Ticket page may not be compatible with the OS 4.5 browser.

It wasn't an intentional move, but I'm not sure what have been changed in order to cause the problem you're having. This will require more research, I can inquire with the BB developers to see what their thoughts are.

Hi Miser73,

Sorry for the wait, it looks like you got to us on Friday evening, we resumed regular business hours following the Remembrance Day long weekend.

There is a difference between the mobile site and the mobile *touch* site.

You can view the differences below (on your desktop browser as well),

Mobile Site
Mobile Touch Site

You can see there is a Win Prizes on the Touch page.

The mobile touch site is designed to be more like the mobile applications that can be used on most smartphone/non smart phone touch screen devices, and the "old" mobile site was designed for older phones with only WAP browsers (which, IIRC, there was no ticket option in the original mobile site). Blackberry users with scroll wheels/pads should still be able to make use of the Touch page.

You may need to clear your mobile device browser cache and try reloading the page, in which case you should be brought to the Touch page.

There is a possibility you chose to "View the old mobile site" and it is now cached in your browser to automatically redirect to the old mobile site without the get ticket option.

I can also see in your account's ticket summary that your account was credited with tickets on Nov 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, you also currently have 3870 points in your available point balance (which means 3 more tickets!)

I hope this helps.

-Don

As a former owner of a Blackberry Storm and now a Motorola Droid RAZR for the last year or so, I can probably say that the option to buy tickets on the mobile site probably quit working entirely. I rarely used the mobile site on the browser on my old phone since the Blackberry would support the app. As for the Android version, I don't see an option to buy tickets. They've probably just let this portion of the site ride off into the sunset on the Blackberry. Either JT or DC or one of the mods with knowledge of the mobile site can clue you in as they appear to be delayed in getting you a response.

Scoutmaster, I think I've made it quite clear that this report does not involve the GB app. It's just the BlackBerry browser connecting to m.garygasprices.com and nothing else. It worked for me for six months, and then it suddenly stopped fulfilling my ticket requests. Nothing changed on the device, so something must have changed at GB. Plain and simple.

Like I said, it's no big deal for me to use the full site to order tickets. It's just misleading for those who use the m.<sitename>.com interface to be invited to enter the prize draw and then have it fail. I thought someone at GB might care, but if they don't, that's not my problem.

You stated you haven't upgraded the app. Could be the problem. I would delete it and re install and see if that fixes it.

It worked on this device for my first 6 months as a GB member, and nothing changed on the device. I haven't upgraded any apps in the last few months.

When the problem first appeared last week, I thought maybe it was because the device had been running for too many weeks without a clean restart, so I shut it down and removed the battery for a minute. After a full reboot it still didn't work. Then I concluded that something must have changed on GB between 11/2 and 11/5, so I came here to report the issue.

If GB no longer wants to support mobile web users with ticket orders, that's OK with me; I can open the full site to order my tickets. But if that's the case, then the invitation to enter the prize draw should not appear when a price is submitted with a point balance of 1,000 or more. Alternatively, it could link to the full site instead of the broken mobile page. As it stands now, it offers something that doesn't work.

Since this works on the full site, go there. It sounds like this is related to your device and not Gas Buddy.

My attempt to edit my previous post timed out, so here's a follow-up post.

You have to enter a gas price through the mobile web site in order to receive the invitation to enter the drawing. It doesn't matter whether you're already maxed out on points for the day when entering the price, as long as you have a current balance of 1,000 or more. Then the invitation appears, and its "Enter Now" link points to m.garygasprices.com/Prize.aspx which displays the form, and this also is the URL associated with the "Verify Your Contact Information" page although then it is accompanied by an argument beginning with "t=" and a cryptic 14-character code.

As stated previously, I am not using the GB App because it is not compatible with my older BlackBerry. Instead, I am using the BlackBerry web browser to access the mobile web site at m.garygasprices.com

Although there is no place to order tickets on the home page, entering a gas price that results in a point total of 1000 or more causes the subsequent list of nearby stations to begin with large, bold green text declaring, "You have enough points to enter the prize draw!" followed by a link, "Enter Now". Clicking on that link opens a form in which to enter the number of tickets desired. Entering an appropriate number and clicking the "Get Tickets" button brings up the "Verify Your Contact Information" page.

Two weeks ago, clicking the button at the bottom of the "Verify Your Contact Information" page caused my order to be placed successfully. Beginning last week, it just resets the requested number of tickets to zero and does not place the order.

Are you using a mobile site (m.garygasprices.com) or an app? I don't see any way to get tickets using the mobile site.

I let my points build up and tried again this morning with an order for 2 tickets. It still reduced my order to 0 tickets when it reloaded the Verify Your Contact Information page, after having initially displayed that page with the correct number. So it doesn't matter how many tickets are ordered; it still resets to zero and does not place the order. Something changed on the mobile site between 11/2 and 11/5.

It's an old, employer-provided BlackBerry Curve running the highest OS version available for that device -- I think it's v4.5. I checked with the carrier and found that it cannot be upgraded to the OS 5.0 level that the GB App requires. I use the BlackBerry web browser to access the GB mobile web site at either m.garygasprices.com or m.chicagogasprices.com, no app involved.

The last time it was able to get tickets was Friday November 2, and when I tried to order a ticket on Monday November 5 it didn't work. Something changed on that site last weekend.

Not sure what mobile app you're using but if you "buy a ticket" on the iPhone 4S with the current software, after you confirm that you want 1 ticket (or however many you specify), you're returned to the home page with an annotation at the top of the page confirming how many tickets you "bought".

It might help the moderators if you said more about your device and the operating system you're using.
