Very frustrated posting my very first topic, ever.
(Is there a way to see if this has been discussed already by anyone?) There are over 10,000 topics in this category!
Is there a search function?

Many times a week I am seeing duplicate station postings.
I am seeing two forms of this, and a combination of the two:
First, I see a station listed twice, from the same submission. No apparent differences in station address spelling.
Second, I see the new posting fail to remove the old posting. Again, no apparent differences in station address spelling.
Third, I see both at the same time. Four postings, two old duplicates, and two new duplicates. Also no apparent spelling differences.

I would like to know if other members can see this too, or if it is only on my screen.
There were three duplicated stations tonight. One posting expired over 36hrs, so now two (four) still show.

I will inform you of new duplicates (more examples) as they appear.
I have posted them on my whiteboard, so look there for the stations I have observed this problem with.

Can somebody tell me if they see this too?
Thanks,
Mr K L

Probably not -- as far as the official protocol goes, a URL ends with /path?key=val&...&key=val where the keys and values are mostly arbitrary, and it's up to the server software to decide how to interpret them. It's possible that some other site also honors a key named page_size, but I wouldn't expect it unless it's part of some standard, or at least an established convention.

THANKS kwzh!
I set it to 1500 and got all searched at once!
I suppose this will work on other site too! Will try it next time I'm on Sears or others (eBay?) that produce pages of results!

Thanks Don, too soon to tell, but I am now convinced it will get rid of the 'mirrored' dups too. Haven't see any more so far. I suppose it is a byproduct of the dup checker encountering the 24-36hr old posts.
DI stated he/she saw them too (the dups I listed as examples), when I was reaching out for help. So DI must have an old search too. DI also said several others have reported this behavior.
I tried to whiteboard DI to inform him/her of the solution. Maybe DI has seen this, but hasn't replied yet... I wanted DI to pass it on to the others he/she has been in contact with that have this problem!

When I get a chance I was thinking of posting my own topic with the problem and solution, so those this issue can find it! (?)

Thanks to all those who help me solve this! (My biggest concern was if I should discontinue using Firefox on the internet!). I could not figure out if it was actually on the GB website, in the transport to my computer, or in my system!

[PS I know how to spot manual entry errors and I take care of them by zero and/or whiteboard the offender politely; it just so happened I missed one and just happened to picked that one to PM to the moderators, oops! (Don)]

Thanks,

@ troubleshooter,

It's what we're here to do, I'm glad to hear this seems to have helped.

Let us know if you discontinue seeing the same amount of duplicates as you were before, some of the examples were manually entered addresses, but some of them were being caused by older prices "expiring" off the page and remaining in view.

The forum software admittedly needs an updated, here is how we recommend users try to find a particular topic.

If you're content with searching the topic lines: First, get to the forum category that you want to search. Click on the URL text box, go to the end of the string, append the text "&page_size=500" and press Enter; this will load a new page that shows more hits at once, so you won't have to turn the page as often. Go to the top of the page and click on some harmless text, like the "Logged in" line, just to make sure your current position is at a well-defined position. Now use the browser's Find-In-Page function -- this seems to be on Ctrl-F in all major browsers -- and type your search text. Continue searching until you find an appropriate match.

PS;
Is there anyway to search a forum to see if this was discussed before I post mine? (without looking though 10,000+ topics, one page at a time?)
I could not find a 'search' box, except by author, etc.

Did I post this question in the proper place/way??

I was hopping for some feedback on this too.
I try to use direct contact to website mods, and posting a new question, as last resorts after researching if the issue has been addressed or discussed already!

Thanks,

Hi again;

Do you remember:
"Emily Litella, AKA Rosanne Rosannadanna", (Gilda Radners character from SNL)?

"NEVER MIND..."
===============

I see Don got here before I finished reading his reply!
Thanks again Don!

Shortly after I posted below, I received a response from GB moderator Don, and he confirmed and explained why I am seeing 36hr old posts, and these dups!

This solves the mystery of why I am seeing most of these dups!*

Seems I have been able to view <=36hr price posts (anytime), due to my save search being too old. (So my browser is continually pulling up <=36hrs posts!)

*This solves the bulk of the dups I see, (and non-MSL post errors I can spot), but it does not explain the 'mirror' posts I was seeing. [one submission, duplicated display].
Don reset my saved search to current allowed parameters, and I will wait and see if it also stops these on my GB page, too...

[I am skeptical my settings could produce these also, but anything is possible.
I am going to review my saved screenshots to see how many were this category of dup, and how many were <24hrs old (if any)].

Thanks again for your helpful replies!

This problem appears to have been an issue with a saved search that used an old site price expiry time, this has been updated and should help resolve the issues of your seeing duplicates while using that particular search.

I hope this helps.

Another dup just appeared:

Sinclair
7733 Portland Ave & E 78th St
Richfield
snorkels
a moment ago

Sinclair
7733 Portland Ave S & E 78th St
Richfield
70Tang

These appear to be MSL compliant, and match each other.
Since they are 4hrs old, they will appear to everyone right now.
This is on my price list view.
I don't know about the map.
This dup should probably be viewable for the next day (as it is fresh, and the time difference between them is small).

Can anyone confirm they can see these too?

TxJeans, I realize I also misunderstood your reply...
I thought you were with the moderators or staff first time I read it.
Upon re-reading, I thought you were recommending I zero them out.
Now I believe I understand you are quoting the mods recommendation to zero them, and you were just suggesting this as a possible cause/solution...

Thanks for the input.

I think I have managed to eliminate this possibility when it happened on my own submission, and then worked normally afterword (with nothing changed).

Still don't know which end is causing the glitch, or if dups by others is also unexplainable, or if it is a mix of various causes, adding up to the sum of the dups appearing.
At least some of them are not user error, as I have now confirmed this from careful personal experience. (excluding the possibility as to if a browser can do this).

Sorry TxJeans,
(Oh, and thanks for your help!!)

That cannot explain this.
It happened again to me this week, and I have not 'managed' to add 2x station to my list.
It has not been touched, other than to type in prices and submit them.
Still submitting that station in my list, and is submitting normal before, and since. (Paradise car wash on 9201 Lyndale).
I got an 'new not erasing old' duplicate.

I can not discount my browser possibly having a glitch sending/communicating.
I don't know enough about domputers <typo, "computers"; but I like it! LOL> to know if that could cause a submission to not match the MSL (and cause the dup), even though using the favorites list.

My first dup on a post of my own was a while ago, and my browser crashed before I was able to examine it thoroughly; so was uncertain (at that time) if it was related to my computer's problems.

Seeing the number, and the source from reliable contributors, (who most likely do not enter manually), led me to suspect a GB system bug. (old/new dups).
And now it has happened to me.
And the mirror dups are not repetitive, which you would expect if a productive contributor accidentally added a 2X favorites entry. (unless they just fixed it that fast).

Also, I am not certain, but I think I may have had the 'mirrored' dup myself, which would eliminate that explanation too. (unless it is possible that my browser can send the data twice, as I mentioned above).

So does it have to be a GB glitch, or could it be that a portion of members have overworked computers, or the same browsers, and they experience these dups while submitting?

Thanks again for your input! (or anyone else who wants to comment!)

Thanks for your help TxJeans.
I was reluctant to Zero other's posts, just because they showed twice, without a proper price sighting to replace it with.
I have thought this through a little more thoroughly.
I guess I could re-post it for the same time, with their price spotted...

Mainly, I was trying to eliminate my system from the equation before bothering the mods with it.
I was hoping to find an member willing to view my cities on their computer while I am able to see these dups (they usually persist over hours, and I thought I have seen them after restarting my browser during these times).

Question:
When they appear on my screen, is it possible for it to be my browser displaying only some 'data points' or fields twice?
Another words, could it be my browser or cache, or a slow and unresponsive internet connection (my OS), causing resending of some data fields?

It also just occurred to me that I could look it up myself, next time it occurs on my roommates computer! Something I did not think of to try until tonight...

Thanks for telling me about the 'comments' field when zeroing something!
I think I read that before, but forgot how that worked!

Next time it occurs, I will see if I can use my roommates computer to verify it, or find another member to check their screen for that station, and see if it shows that way on their screen.

I can't believe it is everybody, or there would be more awareness of it.
I suspect it may be only on my screen.

Thanks again,
Mr K L

Let's try this again...

"I knew how to zero and have before.
These are duplicates with the exact same spelling, and by same person for same price and time. I have observed this many times, and not same member each time.
ALSO, it happened to me, and I use my favorites list to post, and it appeared twice for the same submission!"

It is not just zeroing out a wrong price, it is zeroing out the duplicates and putting a note to the admins as to the reason. They can then address the issue. It happens frequently when someone manages to add a station 2X in their FSL.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
First, I see a station listed twice, from the same submission. No apparent differences in station address spelling.
> Probably duplicated on the person's FSL

Second, I see the new posting fail to remove the old posting. Again, no apparent differences in station address spelling.
> Maybe manually entered station with small difference (not noticeable)in station info - such as an extra space at the end that you would not see?

Third, I see both at the same time. Four postings, two old duplicates, and two new duplicates. Also no apparent spelling differences.
> Possibly both of above duplicated in person's FSL - seen as two stations, both duplicated on the list?

Thanks,
It goes further than that...
I knew how to zero and have before.
These are duplicates with the exact same spelling, and by same person for same price and time. I have observed this many times, and not same member each time.
ALSO, it happened to me, and I use my favorites list to post, and it appeared twice for the same submission!
Also, at times I see the same station for two times by two members, one old, and the new one (same or different price depending on pricing). Both are correct (and spelled the same), just the old one does not erase for the new one.
Since I have had it happen to myself, I know it is not double entries.
Even if my mouse or browser 'clicked twice', they are the same time, as I use a drop-down time (usually), and even if I put it in for 'current time', then one should erase the other...

Is there any chance a browser could render the list wrong (with duplicates)?
I don't know how the information is transmitted in this form, because it is not a fixed HTML page, the list part varies, so maybe it is a data stream or script.
Could my browser be slow and not acknowledge receipt of packets, and the server resends it until my browser acknowledges receiving that data field???

Mainly, I want another member look the next time I see it, and confirm if they see it(them) too.

[Also, refreshing, which gives a new timestamp top right corner, still has the exact same stations duplicated, so is not a one-time page loading issue. But I don't know if cache data could be a factor here too].

[The address spelling is the same letter for letter, but have not counted the spaces, but I don't think this is it, since it happened to my submission too].

Thanks,
Mr K L

My understanding is that usually is caused by someone putting the station in the FSL 2X.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Response from MOD:
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. The member has been contacted, and have been requested to update their FSL. Please let us know if they continue to post inaccurately.

As a senior member, you can delete false prices, duplicates, etc. by clicking the price, and setting the new price to 0 (zero). When you do this, ALWAYS leave a quick note as to why it was deleted in the comments field (just delete the existing comment, and input your reason). Only site administrators can see these messages.

This is typically the best way to go about this as we deal with such high volume of e-mail that we may not be able to address the issue for days or even weeks.

If a there are two versions of the same station posted, one must not be in sync with the Master Station List. I would delete the duplicate that is out of sync and report it to the moderators.
