I agree maxstar!
Also, I thought I was going nuts when I checked it and saw all the updates with dates before I started this topic....Then I saw the loaded a "backlog" to the What's New.

I would suggest that the "What's New" link be moved somewhere in the top banner and tagged with the last update to it to indicate when the last new item was added. Something like "What's New - updated 11/01/12".

Answer the question and then ask one of your own.
Do you know the month and the year that this website began operation? Use format: xx/xxxx.

I thought I was going nuts when I saw all those posts with dates back from time when I was sure there was no announcements.
Thank you GB!
Now -- a few more things....
1) make it more obviously accessible. I had forgotten where I even found it until I saw a post about it by CK.* 2) a tab with release notes would also be nice if you could get a chance.
* and use of messaging system for really BIG announcements.
And...of course, I can't leave w/out my other suggestion that I can't seem to explain to you why it is so important for me (and others) in the search of the best price...
Yep, my request for a flag to indicate dual pricing. :-)
Thanks again!

The What's New page was recently updated with a backlog of What's New updates, our developers have revisited the back-end What's New tool, and made some changes for GBMod accessibility. Hopefully you will continue to see it used regularly from now on!

I agree with kzwh.
Yes, there is already a page that lists at least the last four weeks, of weekly gas card winners.
Additionally, "annoucing" member milestones replicates information that is already available at the top and bottom of every GB webpage - Points Leaders.
Announcements need to be reserved for 'major' infrequent things (website updates, rules changes, FAQ changes, etc.), not things that occur on a frequent basis (points milestones, weekly winners, etc.). The weekly winners use to be included back when the drawings were not as frequent, and included "prizes" versus gas cards.

Thank you for a fine idea and suggestion TXJEANS. This would likely be a major improvement in coummunications here. It may get the site back to its old motto of "Consumers working together to save on gas".
Lately it seems more like Pigeons getting together to worship Big Oil and Big Coal, in that order. Or perhaps Special Interests working together to abolish the EPA!

I believe there's already a page that notes the gas card winners; it doesn't need to be replicated on the What's New page. And I don't think there should be any global acknowledgment of point milestones.

rbrk said "Maybe congratulations to the winners of gas cards as well. Or, congratulations to those members reaching certain milestones regarding point totals, etc. "
This should not be included unless they make the announcement area tabbed with one tab with general announcements, one with release notes, and one with more "social" type announcements.
The fact that they changed the FAQ on posting cash instead of credit is a prime example of something that has disrupted the boards by not being announced. Ignoring the fact that the change was ill-thought out and the wording should probably have been to post what is on the sign when one price is posted and if both cash and credit are posted then the CREDIT should be posted with the cash in the comments since stats show most use plastic.
Also - information about the GBDirect and that the "DIRECT" out weighs TIME of post on the listing. I had not noticed that before. It lessens the usefulness and ease of using the site.
Major changes through the messaging would also be smart - it could be limited to just sending the link to the What's New Announcement area. Oh - and make the page more readily found from the front page.

This website also has the ability to send 'announcements' via the member messaging system, that it has used in the past.

Timely request TXJEANS. Updates and improved communication with members are definitely needed on GB.
I want to request that we know which moderator is posting on this thread.
The GM account is an all purpose account designed for use by the sitting moderator of the moment.
General Moderator, GasBuddy Moderator ... pick your favorite term of what the GM might stand for; but one thing GM is not, GM is not one specific real person unless something has changed recently.
When the GM account was frequently used in the past, it created a confusing and annoying situation because the information and answers changed drastically depending on who was answering the question at the moment. I am not sure what the reason is for the ruse, but I know quite a few GB members that prefer direct, honest answers. Perhaps if the moderator that is responding to this thread will drop the "GM" disguise, we can move along to addressing the matter at hand? Members that have been around a while know that some moderators have a better reputation for reliability than other moderators. Does not seem too much to ask to know who is posting comments on this thread especially given that the topic is site communication with members ;0}

After looking through it from the beginning, it seems that the first 10 years of use of the "What's New" page was reasonable. Then it dwindled down to nothing.
What is wrong with continuing the same type of use? Any and all site announcements should be there.
Maybe congratulations to the winners of gas cards as well. Or, congratulations to those members reaching certain milestones regarding point totals, etc.

As TXJEANS noted, any changes to the FAQ should include a summary in "Whats New". Also any new features like the "Awards" or changes to price updating policies.

Those are some great suggestions TXJEANS. If you have any more suggestions or think of something we could add to the "What's New" page keep letting us know. We have been looking at adding to this for sometime now but weren't exactly sure what users wanted to read. Thanks for the great feedback!

Well, I would think maybe the bigger announcements which might include policy changes as well as software changes. But it would also be nice to have a link to the "release notes" when a software update is made.

This is something we have talked about recently. You're right it has not been updated in quite sometime. What kind of updates would you like to see? Every minor detail (such as bug fixes) or just the "big" updates (such as a new feature)?
