No. I think that mainly tire size is kind of a style. In my life I have seen tires go from 16 inch to 15 inch to 14 inch to 13 inch and back again so that bigger seems better but the bigger the tire the more money it seems for wheels and tires.

Now 13 inches and smaller is not so good when you hit a big pothole. But a good 14 or 15 incher seems satisfactory from that standpoint and the difference in price is convincing to me. gearing can make up any difference in circumference.
