Regardless of presence of WiFi I would take a train or a bus if it were available in my area. That way I could catch up on my sleep or reading.

For me there is no public transit options that can get me to work.

I live in a area that is served only by a commuter bus that runs a few times each day Mon-Fri to points downtown.

In my case I live in one suburb and I work in another suburb and there is no route in existence that would get me from here to there.

If all other convenience were to be funneled to a halt, then maybe a local bus service could become a rescue system with some foot huffing added to the circumstances. Ifs aren't often pleasant in nature.

All the commuter trains got wiped out this week due to the big storms. Don't see how this is possible though. MBTA (Boston transit) was so screwed up by the snow they forced out the general manager. She is incompetent - even my town dumped her when she ran our system.

I saw the Amtraks all idling empty on sidings along the highway this week. Sad. Why are trains stopped by snow? They have a specialized engine which clears tracks with a jet engine blower...guess it didn't work.

I would take the train if there was one, WiFi or not.

The freight train doesn't stop :)

Trains are not affordable. They are extremely convenient for me but priced in the stratosphere. Makes no sense to ride one.

Bus or train???
I'd have to drive at least 30 miles to the nearest bus stop and 60 plus miles to a train station...don't think that's about to happen any time soon but then I can't imagine ever moving back anywhere close to some inner city environment again either.

The commuter trains, the Amtrak and the Acela all provide wifi here. As does Megabus.

My door to door time cannot be more than 15% more than car time, then I would consider it.

Yes indeed, our local white elephant of a bus line is now providing bus service to the county that I work in, but they are only stopping just across the county line which doesn't help me at all.

main determinant for me would be time savings over commuting by car. If they dropped me off too far from my ultimate destination and the walk took too much time for me to save on commute time I would not travel by train

Megabus is an amazing bargain into NYC. Wish it had more destinations from my town. Amtrak is just too expensive. Makes no sense to use it unless flights are cancelled. The Acela though is superb. Its usually booked solid too. Even more expensive than the Amtrak trains.

I regularly go to a town 75 miles from here. The Amtrak stop is 1/4 mile from my destination. But the fare is ridiculous. I drive instead.
