Aint no MPG like infinity MPG :-P

I use my 28 speed bike for local trips whenever weather and carrying capacity permit, and I've made round trips faster than by car by not having to search and fight for a parking spot.
And I'm fit and slim and feel great.

The bikes sold in the DC area are expensive and most are design for recreation and not for commuting. Local roads in the Washington DC Metro Area can have steep uphill climbs and multiple stops so a bicyclist really needs high torque (low gearing) rather than high speed gearing. Because of poorly maintained road surfaces, stability and shock resistance in bike design is more important here. Finally most bikes sold locally have NO cargo capacity.

Some localities like Bethesda Maryland are experimenting with renting a bike especially designed for short commutes for a few hours - this actually makes more sense than buying a bike.

its great I use it to go to work with it some times I don't use the car for a couple weeks. that is how I lost over one hundred pounds and saved the gas money and the bike was paid for in the first year.

I'm putting away the snowboard and dusting off the 10 Speed. Did my last slope ride of the season Wednesday and will be pumping up the tires today.

Yes, I got in a short 2 miles the last warmer day we had locally, Weather is still crazy, an a bit windy for my taste for biking. Snow flurries hamper my desires for pedaling also (forecast). Ugg....X 3 !
